cs144 alternator conversion ?

Hi guys, I am in the process of converting a cs130 alternator to cs144. I have read that you need a resistor in the "switch on" wire, terminal L . I also read that these alternators use the same voltage regulators. So my question is will I need this resistor for my conversion? Car is 1988 camaro,TBI engine. By the way, alternator is off of a 1993 cadillac fleetwood, the connector has two wires, camaro connector has three wires. Does the third wire take care of this? Also camaro has volt meter , caddy does not. Thanks in advance, Dean!
