Car: 1988 Camaro IrocZ

Transmission: Redline Performance 700r4 Trans

2 Probs: 1. Gas Guage | 2. Fog Lights

1.
When the gas tank is completely full the gauge only reads 3/4th full. and it does move so it's not stuck or anything, it's like it's timing or w/e is off.
-
so as u can guess when the car gets down to reading near empty you can't help not to get edgy(even tho in retrospect theres 1/4th tank). After a bit it jus gets sketchy reading empty yet still goin u dno when u'l run out.
-
Would this mean i need a new fuel sending unit/guage or what idk much when it comes to this particular stuff.

2. When purchased car from previous owner 3weeks ago the fog lights didnt work, and he said he had disconnected them b/c of that. i went all throughout the possibilities that the bulbs were bad, the ground, faulty wiring, something wasn't hooked up right the works. no blown fuses couldnt find or see something wrong.

i called up the previous owner and he said he used the fog lights everyday b/c he loved the look and just one day they never turned on and stayed that way, he couldnt figuyre it out either so he ended up disconnecting them.

any ideas?

--------------
Help on either or both problems would be very appreciated

Thanks and happy holidays,

Sean

Probably not the cause, but at least the info will get you a bump: From 86 up, the fog lights function with the parking lights or with the low beams, but not with the high beams.

Thanks for the link JamesC that's a nice diagram there. And Slash, looks like your sendint unit needs adjustment, but it's a hazzle to do.

Re: 2 Probs: 1. Gas Guage | 2. Fog Lights

Check the resistance on the sending unit at the wires in the dash, there is a specific reading for a certain fuel level. Unfortunately there is no adjustment to be made on the sending unit, and they are EXPENSIVE and HARD TO GET TO. I had the same problem, and it was the guage itself.

The fog lights used a relay, located on the driver side, about 8" in front of the firewall mounted on the inner fender. When the relay is bad, they won't work, they also won't work on high beams either like JamesC said.
