Ignition module

Looking into buying a 1987 camaro with a carbed 350. Its got the electronicly controled quadrajet. I plan on buying it regardless because the guy wants $100 for it, the reason its so cheap is because it keeps popping ignition modules. What could cause this? Heat, overworking? any help is appreciated.

Re: Ignition module

Is the ignition module in the distributor? If so, Failure to apply silicone grease to the underside of the dizzy will result in ignition module failure due to heat.

Good luck

Re: Ignition module

Exactly. The ignition module has a bare metal pad on the bottom side, it needs the grease to help conduct heat to the base of the distributor as a heat sink. But, it probably wouldn't die right away from heat.

Re: Ignition module

I just talked to the guy who i am buying it from. He has tried that. Im thinking of just putting a points dizzy in it with a pertronix. Would this solve the problem?

Foiled Coil

Your coil is shorting internally under load.

Replace it B4 you install a new module.

Re: Ignition module

Thanks. I will look into it. The guy who owns it is giving it to a buddy of mine. He wants to save some money by not feuling up his f150 5 times a month so i am trading him for my 1986 murcury lynx. He is going to buy the coil and ignition module and register the car for me to equal out what i paid for the car and the money i put into it.
