Starting problems

Starting problems
Was driving my 88 bird earlier today and the check engine light came on. Stopped and turned the car off for 10 minutes and tried to start it back up and it acted like it had a dead battery. 2 weeks ago I replaced the battery so I figured the problem was the alternator. Checked the voltage at the battery with my fieldpiece multimeter and said I had 12.9 volts.
Tried to start it back up and I dont have power anywhere as I dont have the click from the starter or even the dome light. So I checked volts to ground and have 12, volts at alternator and have 12. With out jacking the car up to check at the starter what can I do to find the problem, if I need to check at the starter it will have to wait until tomorrow.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Starting problems
Yep found it, bad battery cable going to the starter. Here is the weird part, Auto-Zone, Advance, and O'Reilly's says the cable should be about 45" but the one I just pulled off the car is about 91" and the longest ones they stock is about 65", guess I will have to have one made by napa.

Re: Starting problems
Yeah i just bought the longest one autozone had and it was no where near long enough for my positive side so used it on the negative side, Guy i bought it from had a side post one one side and top mount of the other cable cant remember witch but it was annoying me so we changed it today, still need to buy a starter relay as mine is missing I believe. I searched and another post said yellow wire goes to relay first so ill double check tomorrow just to make sure thats what is causing my starter to not work
