Switching to carb from TBI on 1991 Firebird
Hey dudes.. I'm in the process of rewiring my nightmare out in the garage.. I am switching to a 570 Holley, HEI distributor all on top of a nice, clean, bright orange 1978 Corvette block.
What I want to know is.. What do I keep? I know this has been posted about 1 bijillion times, but the search function on this website kinda sucks, and weeding through the "How Rare is my Camaro" threads just seems like too much effort..
So, I want to keep my stock gauges, IE Water temp, oil pressure, RPM, and charge/discharge.
I know I will no longer need the injector connectors, and other sensors for it.. I also would like to set up a TC lockup switch, and that's about it.. I'm a 3rd year industrial electrical apprentice, so I've seen alot more complicated rat's nests than a thirdgen..

All wires from, the pass side wiring harness should be able to come out in there entirety - you do need to keep everything in the driver side harness.
I always recommend that you take all the pass side wires, bundle them, and tuck them in the fenderwell - they will hide there out of sight - that way 1) you'll have them just in case, and 2) you always have a set of wires from the interior to the exterior for anything in the future (like the TC lockup switch, underhood lighting, fog lights, cooling fan switches, etc.).

Funny, I actually said that when I came in from working on it haha.. Thanks, now, which wires correspond to the ignition and stuff? I'm not really sure on how I'd find out which is my tach wire without ringing it out with my meter?

Been awhile - think your looking for a pink or red wire, and a white wire - I think the white is for the tach - a search here will tell you for sure.
Oh, and here's the best list of wiring diags I know of: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=19

Thanks for that link, i was about to pull out a sensor from the harness when I realized it was the oil press. gauge.. And the fuel pump cut off.. I also moved that sensor to my new block.
I ended up shoving about 10 different wires into the fender... Mostly for stuff like my IAC, injectors, and crap like that.. Lots of fun.

I like that TCI kit, might just end up with that one..
I stuffed my unused wiring into my fender, wires for my injectors, IAC, and a few other things, balled them up, and taped them.. I just have to go pick up some new wire loom and it should be all set.. Oh yea, and resolder a few commons back together

Just be careful with the TCI kit - the little vacuum switch is made of very brittle plastic, and the nipple for the vacuum line breaks very very easily. TCI knows this (as I've told them a dozen times), yet they want over 1/2 the cost of a new kit to replace the damaged vacuum switch (which is their cheap junk and not customer fault when it breaks). I highly recommend making a small project box and mount the tiny junk switch inside it so that you never bump it when under the hood.

Re: Switching to carb from TBI on 1991 Firebird
I am having a hard time finding the wire color that triggers the TC lockup with 12v. Does anyone know what the wire colors are for what function for the 91 Camaro with the 700R4 please? I cant seam to find the right diagram.
Thanks!
Thanks!
