Left Turn Signals not working

1985 Base FireBird 305 almost completely restored and running beautifully after removing all ECM componants, rebuilding engine and switching to vacuum HEI dizzy and Edelbroch 4 BLL carb. All parking light bulbs are new and they all flash perfectly using the Hazard Flasher (and the dash indicator shows both blinking arrows as expected). Then, with the ignition turned on, the right turn signal seems to work perfectly.....the turn flasher relay clicks normally, the dash indicator shows the flashing right arrow, and the right front and real lights blink. Problem is when the signal lever is depressed to the left/downward position. Then nothing happens....no indicator light, no relay clicking, and no front or rear lights glowing at all. Seems to me the problem can't be a fuse or the right blinker wouldn't work. Also can't be a bad bulb, because all the bulbs work perfectly using the hazard switch. My guess is that the Left Turn Signal Switch in the steering column has gone bad. Any one have similar problems??

Same sorta problem here. Hazzards work but left I/P arrow won't light. Left turn signals work, a little slow. Right won't flash, front and side won't light (back will). I/P arrows, neither work will signalling. Cancelling cam recently failed (left).

Re: Left Turn Signals not working

Sounds like you've got several problems including bad signal/hazzard switch (in steering column), and bad turn and hazzard flashers (in convenience center). If all your parking lights are working, then your bulbs are probably ok and unlikely the problem. Excluding the labor of replacing the above, you're probably looking at about $70 in parts, all still readily available.

Thanks drdrdaddeo. This spring I changed a bulb, front driver side, and the battery. Now all these problems. Coincidence . I'll start with flasher and go from there. I need a cancelling cam and might as well change the switch while i'm in there. Keep us posted as to how you make out with your issues.

With the key in RUN, turn signal stalk in the left turn position, use a voltmeter or test light (the type for testing for voltage, not a continuity tester) to probe the light blue wire at the turn signal switch.

Is there power there?

If not, replace the switch.

If there is power there, make sure it gets in and out of the connector located near the lower right of the steering column.

Then make sure power gets in and out of the large connector located near the left front of the dash below the relay bracket.

From there it goes to the lamps.

Happy Racing!

Re: Left Turn Signals not working

Got it fixed. pulled the wheel and noticed the lever that fits in the multi-function arm and screws to the turn signal switch seemed loose. Tightened it down and the three other screws on the turn signal switch and she works. Signal cancels as well.
