Re: behind dash wiring
I think your best option may be to start taking the dashboard apart, may be the only way to have a clear view.

Pop out the plastic "hush panel" that has foam on the backside. This is the thing with the fuse box lid in it. Then take out the 5 10mm screws that hold the knee bolster to the bottom of the dash and remove it. Things should be immensely more available and visible.

Re: behind dash wiring
Since the center console is out,....... remove all the 7mm screws remaining along the firewall edge of the dash housing. Then removed the screw at the botom Left and right. Next remove the 2 nuts at the top Left and Right. Finally, loosen the 13mm nuts that hold the steering column in place to thier lowest point on the mounting studs. ( Drop the column; but don't let it "hang".)
Now you should be able to pull the dash housing from the firewall and see behind it and gives you access to the firewall wiring harness shield. You're right, This is how the power window/door lock/mirror wiring gets from one side to the other. The Rear Speaker harness is also run inside the right 1/2 of this shield on many cars.
