MSD Ready to Run Distributor & Stock Coil Question
Guys, I swapped out the Lg4 for a 350 HO crate motor in my '87 vert. Getting close to firing it up! I did a search and could not find a answer to my question.
The question is about the the output on a stock coil. Pink in is switched power, white in is tach. On the output side (of the factory coil) pink is power (+), is the white for the tack only or also considered the negative side of the coil??
MSD shows wiring for the new distributor (with Blaster II coil).........
Red wire to the positive side of Blaster (will use output side pink)
Orange wire to the negative side of Blaster (can I use the output side white)
Black wire is ground.
Did not want to assume this would work and burn something up!!!!!!
There is not alot of room under the hood to put the bigger coil, so I would like to keep the stock location. If I can wire as above, I'll replace with the MSD version of stock. If not guess I have to figure out where to put the Blaster coil (pass side inner fender).
THANKS, Jeff<jnman>

BURN ! . . . . The Fuel Better
Yes the White wire is also the “negative” side of the primary altho it is not connected to battery neg.
If you have the MSD 6, 7, 8, or 10 the orange wire from the MSD unit goes to the coil positive, and the black wire goes to the coil negative.
The White wire present in the stock car has nothing to due with the ignition.
It is the wire to the Tach, which you will reconnect after you successfully install the new ignition system.
You’ll probably need a Tach Filter in line with the White wire, available from MSD.
