Help me ID this wire
So I've found a loose wire that I cannot trace back to where it belongs. It's a black wire located near the back of the distributor and coil. It appears as though it got pulled out of a connector or is a ground wire, but I want to verify what it is. It is connected to a green wire that is coming out of a large wire loom at the back of the distributor (see attached picture) via another connector. I've looked around the area and cannot find any connectors that appear to be missing a wire, and I don't see any ground terminals that are missing a wire either.
Can anyone tell me what this wire is and where it should go? Thanks,

Re: Help me ID this wire
I don't have a hood light (that I know of; never seen one anyways). Did our cars come with hood lights? I wouldn't mind having one, lol.
Anyone out there that can take a quick look behind their distributor and see where that wire goes for me?
Thanks,

Re: Help me ID this wire
All third gens had hood lights I'm pretty sure. I have that same cut wire behind my distributor to the left, and I have no hood light. I have many cut wires in my car though since it was pretty hacked up, so I could be completely wrong

I think the under hood lights are orange... and possibly closer to the A/C-heater box with a different connector...

I appreciate the help. Any confirmation on whether or not this wire is for an underhood light?

Re: Help me ID this wire
I don't think it is, dude. The under hood light for mine is smaller gauge, like 16 or so, and is orange with a much smaller connector. I know you have an 87, but I think orange is a fairly common color for lights with third gens, as some of the interior light wires are orange as well. Also, the connector for my 90 is on the left side, just above the heater box, not behind the dist or anywhere near it. I've included a pic...

Awesome. Thanks, Ransford. Any chance you can take a pic of what the underside of your hood looks like so I can see where my light should be?
Also, anyone out there that can find the wire I am looking for and tell me where it terminates?
Thanks again for the help.

Re: Help me ID this wire
Here's a picture I had on my comp. You can barely see the light on the top just left of center, and the small wiring loom that runs to the left and down back into the engine bay. Hopefully this works, as it's dark right now. If needed, I can take a picture tomorrow and post it.

Re: Help me ID this wire
That picture helps - thanks a lot.
Hopefully someone can chime in with the purpose of the black wire I can't identify. I am working on many little issues to get the car into better running shape than when it was stored. It runs, but not well, and I am troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues at the moment. I appreciate the help.
