Not my thirdgen, but need some help with my 87 Monte.
So my thirdgen has been running great, using it as my DD, but it want to do heads and cam on the o'l 5.3, so picked up an 87 monte ss to use as a daily so the camaro can go under the knife. Im not a member of any monte boards, and i know the guys on this site know their stuff so i figured ill try posting this here.
So car is an 87 monte carlo ss. Almost done swapping a 5.3 lm7 into it, same setup thats in my camaro but I kept the 200-4r for daily driving purposes. The motor and trans are in the car and wired up to the pcm. Today i was wiring the fuel pump when i popped a fuse. What happened was i tapped into a pink wire on the passenger side dash behind the glove box, as a key on power source for the fuel pump. Turned the key on, pump primed fine then a fuse popped and the dash lights went out. Fuel pump also stopped working.
Tracked the pump wiring down, power wire from pump to key on source was shorted to ground and caused the issue. I changed the 20 amp fuse in the box under the driver dash, but the dash lights still don't come on. No check engine light, gauges, nothing. Just a dead cluster. Engine cranks fine no problem. I pulled the ignition switch on top of the column and jumped the pink wire directly to battery power and still nothing happens. Also, the wire i tapped into for the fuel pump, pink with black stripe, now has no key on power. All the fuses are fine.
Heres a photo of the wire i tapped into, it goes into this plastic box. The heat shrink on the pink wire was the fuel pump connection, cut it out to see if anything would change, but didn't help.
