Re: Help. where do these wires to

Hard to get a good look because of small pics,......

The plug looks like the Heater/AC harness connection to the Engine Harness. If that's correct than the Black wire is ground for the Heater /AC Blower motor.

The black wire should be a real heavy gauge wire as the blower motor carries a heavy electrical current. If the wire used here is too small or if it's got bad connections it WILL cause problems !! On the AC harness side the black wire leads to the blower motor and IIRC the other end of the black wire simply connects to a stud on the back of the pass side head.

I've seen them overheat before...... not that unusual. don't know exactly what caused them to overheat but it happens.

Just so you know; that plug changed a few times over the years. Some cars had a 3 wire plug, some have a 4 wire plug, some have a 2 wire plug. ( pretty sure the 2 wire was non-AC ) Just remember that not all plugs are the same when trying to locate a replacement.

Re: Help. where do these wires to

Black = ground, specifically, for the blower motor

Green = A/C compressor

That connector ALWAYS does that. There's another one in a red wire, not far from that one, that does it too; as well as one in the interior, feeding the HVAC control head. They are THE ABSOLUTE WORST AND STOOOOPIDEST design of connector EVAH. They violate every rule of good connector design: besides being too small to begin with (not enough contact area) for the current they must carry, they actually use the plastic connector body to provide the tension on the metal parts. Absolute 100% ironclad guaranteed take-it-to-the bank every time no other outcome possible FAIL. ALL of them should be cut off and replaced with the BIG FAT THICK WIDE yellow slide terminals; preferably insulated. Remember, the BIG FAT THICK WIDE ones, not the little weenie ones that are just like the blue and red ones except yellow.

The black wire however, it makes little or no sense, now that the car has left the factory, for it to go through a connector at all. The only reason it has that connector in the first place is because when the car was built, there was one harness made as part of the HVAC system in the interior that comes through that rubber grommet, and one half that goes to the blower motor and compressor, under the hood; and that connector is there so they could just plug em together. I'd suggest instead, put a ring terminal on the black wire that comes into it from the pass side, and bolt it under either the same screw where the braided ground strap goes to the firewall right close to all that stuff in your pic, or to the back of the pass side head with the other end of the braided strap.
