serious electrical problem with vatts

first and foremost hello and welcome all to my thread Ill try to keep this short and sweet what we have here is a 89 camaro rs that i just recently sent to the shop to have my rear end rebuilt with 373s a week after i got it back my steering column broke whilst doin donuts so i sent it back in to have it replace and while I was at it had him replace exhaust (catback) driver tail light, struts and brakes. 3 weeks later after several calls to him and him dogding me i finally discover my car is at a dealership and will now not start. so my story goes like this i walk in the dealership and they tell me when you turn the key over it wont do anything and they dont know whats wrong with it and niether did my mechanic........so upon thinking for a minute i just tell them i want it towed to the house and ill deal with my mechanic later so we push it out the bay doors and i proceed to call a tow truck. while waiting i get in and turn the key for poops and giggles and ill be damned if it didnt start straight up but die right after and i can do this over and over and it will stay running as long as i feather the pedal no gas or too much will kill it. i know this is a vats issuse as my security light stays on until i shut my ignition off... can anyone plz help me fix my topless bowtie???? p.s. I can only rev her to about 2 grand but them new flow 80s sound great lol would really love to drive her!

Re: serious electrical problem with vatts

Sounds like you have a few issues. If you turn the key and it does nothing yea VATs is probably the issue and i would guess its a bad connection in the ignition cylinder. Common issue easy to measure from the base of the steering column. However if you just jiggle the key in the cylinder and it works or doesn't work its almost certainly the problem. However that dosnt explain why it runs poorly as once started, VATS does not effect how the car runs. Do you have a check engine light?
