Removed ECM. Will elec fan still work??

I was wondering if it would or if it came out with the ECM harness in my 86 Z-28. And if it did come out. How would I go about rewiring one?

Nope; won't work any more. ECM controls the fan. If you have dual fans, the secondary fan will still come on at the very high temp, but that's it. You'll want a relay and a cooler fan switch.

another thing im worried about are gauges, you could just run a ign wire from fuse panel to the relay for the fan on the firewall so it will come on with ign, thats what I would do anyways, put inline fuse of 20 or 25 amps on it too

good luck

If your '86 Z was carbed (LG4 vin H, or L69 vin G), then the fan is not controlled by the computer - it was controlled by the A/C selector switch and a temperature switch in the RH cyl head, but if it was a TPI LB9, then the ECM controlled the fan & you will need to install a variable or fixed temperature fan control switch (available from Pep Boys, or other local auto parts stores).

Good point, Tim. I wasn't even considering the fact that they made carb'ed Zs back then. DOH!

Yes, it is a LG4 vin H. So it will still work?

If you kept fan temperature switch in the RH cyl head, and the fan relay, then it will function as it did previously. As I indicated above, turning on the A/C switch will also turn the fan on.
