Parting out 87 Formula.....

I recently bought an 87 firebird formula that the previous owner had deconstructed. He literally removed every nut bolt and screw from the body and interior, and its all sitting in boxes and piles and needs to go. The car is now a rolling shell with good title, has the stock 305 carb motor, and still has the rearend and suspension intact. Its a borg-warner 9bolt discbrake posi, and its supposed to be ws6 suspension. But Im trying to verify that. Basically everything is there minus the hood, pass. door, and stock front nose. There is a Trans Am/GTA nose here though with the correct support brackets. Email or call(best way) with needs. Absolutely NO SHIPPING on bigger items i.e. interior, suspension, body panels, etc.

Car has grey and black interior
-140 speedo
-factory speaker amp and dash control for the Gain and stuff
-9bolt disc posi rear
-2 good 91-92 fenders w/ big vents behind wheelwells
-transam/gta nose w/ support brackets
-2 sets of headlight motor assy
-a/c parts
-305 carb long block(milage unknown but does turn over and did run)
-ws6 suspension???

Or buy the whole thing w/ title $500.00!!!

Lemme know... (217)493-4751 or zkeeter1@stu.parkland.edu

Re: Parting out 87 Formula.....

On the rearend, previous owner says its a 3:42, but stock I believe they are 3:23. I havent got to open it yet. Either way, wanting $200 complete disc to disc. I will try to update as soon as I know the ratio.

Re: Parting out 87 Formula.....

With 9 bolt rears it would probably be 3.27 or 3.45

Re: Parting out 87 Formula.....

I dont have any pics right now. The rear will be out tonight, cause the body is going to the junkyard. Once its out I will check ratio for sure. Being that it has supposedly been rebuilt, it could be any ratio, who knows. But I will update as soon as I know. Also, Monticello is 20min west of Champaign-Urbana, IL on I-72. Zip code is 61856 if you wanna get iternet directions, or use gps.

Re: Parting out 87 Formula.....

Ok, the rear is out yes, it is a 3.27 gear and ring teeth look good. It does however have some evidence of someone being in there before, I dont know how recently. And whoever was left some bolts loose. Where the bolts for the ring gear are, there is a smaller ring of bolts as well and some of the have backed out. Very usuable from what I can tell. still functions and even locks in posi just by hand. But I would suggest reduilding just in case. I would at least have it looked at by someone who knows more before using it, I would if I were keeping it.

As for the harness, there are wiring sections everywhere, the kid that disassembled the car cut everything into sections. It all has enough wire left for connecting back up, but its just a mess.

Re: Parting out 87 Formula.....

FROZER>>> Rearend has been disassembled and repaired. I had the differential inspected, both ring and pinion gears, and spider gears and internals of the diff. They ofcourse have wear because they are used, but nothing excessive, and no damage to and components, there are some scars on the diff case from a previous issue of some sort. All in all, very usuable used rearend. $150.00 bottom dollar. Lemme know
