Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
I have a 3-series Zexel Torsen unit for sale. It was a pull out from a 01 Camaro SS with 60k miles. I know it is a 3-series because it has a ring for 3.42 attached (useless without pinion, so that is included at no charge).
Uses 28 spline axles, so axles from 90-92 will work with it. Axles from 89 and older 10-bolts are 26 spline, so they would need to be replaced with 28 spline. 9-bolt axles will not work with it.
This diff will also work inside of any 93-02 camaro rear end (if yours has been swapped), as they are all 28 spline as well
I am asking $125 plus shipping. I am located in southern CA, and would prefer a local pick up, but am willing to ship at buyers expense.

Re: Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
And setup for a car with ABS will not affect its function in a 3rd gen.

Re: Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
Sorry I missed the post, not sure how that happened... didn't see the update...
Is that the piece that goes in the center to keep the shafts out? (block plate?) If so, I think I have it. let me check when I get home and make sure.

Re: Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
I ended up getting a different one that had the gears. This one had a mismatched pinion gear and ring gear, so I couldn't use it... happened across another that had matching gears from a 02 ss and was willing to install (sorry don, I just know you have a long wait list and this was a pretty low priority thing, lol), so I went with that set.
This one is now an extra.

Re: Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
Excuse my questions, but I'm new to doing any kind of rear end mods. I've got a set of gears already (4.10s) for a 7 5/8 series III. My rear is a '91 so 28 spline. Provided I get a rebuild kit, this ought to go right in w/ my existing axles and new ring and pinion? I guess this was answered in the OP but what I'm asking is, is what you've got there everything I'll need as far as the carrier? Would I have to source any springs or pins or discs or anything (not too familiar with Posi's period let alone Zexel Torsens lol)

The ZT diff uses worm gears for the LSD, where the auburn and Eaton use the springs and friction plates/cones. You can see the gears in the 2nd picture

Re: Zexel Torsen Differential Unit
couldn't get the ring gear off (bolts are on pretty tight, probably going to need an impact), weighs 26.5 pounds packaged and ready to ship. Shipping would be $48 to you

I don't know why they are reverse thread. Some engineer 60 years ago apparently decided they should be.
