I'll be pulling the fuel tank from my '89 Firebird because I'm doing an LS engine swap. I'm in Peoria, IL. How soon do you need a tank? I wasn't planning to do anything until the weather warms a bit.
You're in luck here because I've had this car for 19 years and it's been sitting in a garage the whole time and hasn't even been driven the last 12 years. It spent all but the last 4 years in the dry desert out west so there is likely to be no rust at all. (we'll know for sure when I pull it out) Basically, all you have to do is clean out the old fuel and residue and the tank will be like new again. This is an impossible find in Illinois where everything rusts away.
