Engine mounts

Sorry for the rookie type question guys but I have to know. I was wondering if the enigine mount bolt patern on the ZZ4 crate enigine would bolt right up to my 1988 350 TPI camaro? Or do I have to do some modifications?

I am looking to buy a crate engine and I am a little confused on what they mean about 2 bolt main and a 4 bolt main. Could someone please explain this to me. Thanks for any info you guys could give me.

The engine itself will bolt to the same mounts/bellhousing/etc. as your L98.

There are a few issues to overcome going from L98 to ZZ4, but nothing that can't be handled. The main issue is that the ZZ4 revs higher than the TPI is made for, so some mods are in order to fix that (shorter runners, ported plenum & base). Other things are the bolt angles on the intake manifold, exhaust cross-over passage for the EGR valve.

2-bolt and 4-bolt refer to the crank main bearing caps. A 2-bolt block has 2 bolts on each of the main caps; a 4-bolt has two additional bolts on the center three caps, outside of the normal two that a 2-bolt has. It is supposed to give the crank better support.

Thanks for the info five7kid . For some reason I thought that the 4bolt main meant that the engine mount for the ZZ4 had to be fabricated to fit into the stock 2bolt engine mount.

So whether it says 2bolt main or 4bolt main (specs on some crate engines) it should mount right up correctly to the engine mounts on the car right?

With the oil pan on, you can't tell the difference between a 2-bolt and 4-bolt engine.
