I Need Some Information
I bought a 1984 Camaro last summer. Yes, it was a Sport Coupe and came with a 2.8 Liter 2 Barrel Carb. Then just in November I bought a 1987 Z28 with a 350 in it. I was bound and determined to switch my motor because the V6 just was not working out for me. It was pretty tired and I wanted the power also.
To this point I have taken the 2.8 out and the 350 out of the Z28. I was just wondering if I am going to be able to just throw it in after I clean it up. What do I need to change. I know something about the engine mounts but I need a list of things that I have to change.
Thanks.

I am not building the Z28 because it doesn't have any t-tops and I like them, it needs new fenders, and rear quarter panels, the wheel wells are rusted and the only thing that is basically worth anything in it is the 350, windshield, doors, and interior is about mint. So fixing up my Coupe would be a lot easier plus i really don't care about the ground dynamics.

I thought only IROCs got 350s in '87. What induction does it have on it? What do you plan to use?
The answers to those questions could either cause a lot more work than what is quoted by Riley, or or avoid it. If it's TPI and that's what you go with, then you've got computer, harnessing, and fuel pump to deal with, too. Basically, anything that attached to the V6 or fed it will come out, anything that attached to the V8 or fed it will come from the donor car and go into the '84. And a few things, like the brake line, get in the way, so they have to change, too.
Oh, the tach is different, too.
Have fun with the motor mounts. We all did.

My Coupe does have A/C. Well, the guy I got the Z28 from put a 350 in it to replace the factory 305, and instead of messing with the fuel injection he just used a carberator. So that is how the 350 got there. It kept on braking down on him so he just wanted to get rid of it. Come to find out when I take apart the engine, the camshaft is beat ALL to hell, chips taken off it everywhere, the oil looks like it hasn't ever been changed, the head nuts and bolts were as loose as hell, there was about 3 inches of caked on oil all over the whole damn thing, this guy was just a moron. He didn't care. So I am just going to rebuild it.
What is going to happen with the motor mounts anyways? Am I going to have trouble?

you have change to v-8 mounts...move them to the forward most holes...sounds easy right?...wrong...the nuts holding the mount are inside the tube of the cross member...with enough swivels and extensions they can be done without lowering the a arm...but you might as well lower it and change the front springs while you have it apart...I didnt and my car just doesnt handle like it used to...dives in the corners.....but i'm a straight a head kind of guy...and to tell you the truth i think the lighter springs help the weight transfer on launch..but what do I know i'm just a carpenter..
Oh yeah..when you replace the mount bolts, turn them around so the nuts on top......go here https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...936#post633936

A spring compressor that will allow you to drop and raise the A-arm is a big assist (didn't think of that until I was done). Without the engine weight, you can't do it with just a floor jack. Like said, you need to change the front springs, and the nuts are staring at you when the A-arms are down, so kill two birds with one stone.
