LT1 swap, traction question

i didnt know which section to put this question, so i put it here. i have gotten alot of help in this section.

i completed my swap (95 LT1 in a 92 Z) about a month ago. tonight was the first time i raced it, and i was excited and depressed at the same time.

i raced an 82 Z28 with a crate motor. (it was a nice car) we went 3 times, and each time i did better, but he beat me every time cause no matter how hard i tried i couldnt avoid spinning the tires.
WHAT CAN I DO????

it has a 700r4 with a shift kit, still has the traction bar thing that was stock, and has some pretty good tires.

i could tell that once i hooked up he wouldnt gain on me at all, and the final run i actually was able to gain on him some. i am very excited, i think my car has the potential to be 1 bad mo fo.

ant suggestions?

You can try a better panhard, ajustable torque arm, ajustable control arms, V6 rear shocks, wider rear tires.

is there an aftermarket company that makes the best parts for this?
what are V6 shocks?

did anyone else experience this with thier LT1 swap?

Spohn has some great parts. First things to get are LCA brackets, LCA's and Subframe connectors. The main thing I would do though is check into some drag radials. Also, what gears are you running?

Then I'm guessing it doesnt have posi?

like I said, I would go with tires and LCA's/brackets first. That will help quite a bit. Then later on if you need it get the adjustable Torque Arm, but those go for a pretty penny.

no, im sure i dont have posi.
i have a richmond gears 3:73 kit, can i install a posi when i put those in, or is it something that i have to buy together?

im really disapointed, these tires were supposed to be good for this, and they were not cheap.

do the tires need to be bigger?
will drag radials perform while cornering?

ill check out spohn too!

GET POSI!!! That will do wonders for your traction. You could get an SLP take-off unit for $99, plus the gears you already have, and you're good to go. I would make that my number 1 priority. After that, then work on the suspension.

Oh yeah, and what tires do you have and how big are they? You said they were meant for this so if you get posi you should be good. The other thing to consider, the more gear you put under it the harder it will be to get traction. The advantage of gears is once you get the traction, then you get the better acceleration.

Can't really help you too much on tires. I'm running Goodyear Eagle F1's right now on the rear and cut a 2.0 light with 24 psi in them. I can't see getting much more improvement on that with street tires. If I had a stronger rear end I wouldn't hesitate to get some slicks, but I can't afford to replace axles or center sections right now. Nitto seems to have the best drag radials from my experience, I think they run about $150 apiece.

Posi and tires are your best bet. For tires it is more important to have a good tire compound than wide tires, although wide tires look nice.

Drag radials would be good, if you want an all round performance and don't care about price some Bridgestone potenaza S-03 pole positions would hook up well, or for less money some Firestone firehawk sz50ep's they last a while too.

Dont waste your money on expensive aftermarket suspension items like tubular torque arms, boxed LCA's and tubular panhard bars if you dont have a working posi and a good set of tires. Get a zexel torsion posi and some 28 spline axles (if you can still get the zexel) and some BFG comp T/A drag radials and you will eliminate virtually all your traction problems.

Yep, SLP used to sell $99 posi units off new camaros. That is what i run, and I found used 28 spline axles on ebay for $60. Do you ever race at the Southern Oregon Speedway?

in this order i would do things:

tires... if you already dont have good ones.
posi and gears (same time)
relocate LCAs
new LCAs.

the gears.

a gear install kit. (all one part, look in summit)

the posi unit

LCA relocation brackets

LCAs... they either come with the hardware, or you reuse your stock ones..

umm i think thats it.

need a welder to put the brackets on, the LCAs just bolt right on, and the gears you either need the tools and know how, or take it to someone who does..
