The new Project, 89RS-LS1.
I'll have some more pics. tomorrow. I was too busy ripping everything out of the engine bay today. I got everything but the motor out, but tomorrow it comes out.
The wheels came with the car, I was really happy about that, but they will be the second set of 85-87 IROC's that I will have polished and painted black. Other things I'll be doing will be, new Z28 front grill, window tint, whole new interior (was red...yuck), and thats about it. Sleeper.

I'll probably be getting some type of Drag launch kit (Eibach prob.), and of course some Spohn goodies, and more than likely doing the LS1 brake swap (drums in the rear, those wont work for me). I'm currently shopping around for a cam, anybody got some suggestions? Might as well do it while its on a stand right.

Sounds good. Do you have the part# for it? Looks like I'll have alot of fun tuning the LS1. I've been reading on the LS1Edit, and I guess some other guys, HPTuners I think just came out with some software. It'll be kinda wierd putting down the little screw driver and picking up a laptop to do some tuning.

I've got that same TR 224 cam in my LS1 swap, it's great. Slightly lumpy idle at 800rpm, pulls like a mule all the way thru 6K rpm.
There are several options for valve springs w/ 0.563" lift, I went with Crane duals and thus far they're happy.

I would call MTI (Motorsport Technologies). Their C2 cam is a decent street LS-1 cam. They can tune LS-1 ECM's better than most companies too!

I went with comp cams. They have a decent selection of LS1 stuff and they can do a custom grind if you like. As with any cam 918 springs and hardened pushrods are a must.

The thing I don't like about comp cam's LS1 cams is the lift. Most of their cams don't have enough lift for what the LS1 truly can take advantage of. I could have made even more power going with something over.600, but my car is street driven and I didnt wanna put much stress on the valve springs or make the tune too far off. Plus the idle with the 224 cam is great. There are a lot of options to choose from. I suggest checking out LS1tech.com for more info, but the 224 cams are fantastic for a daily driver.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Yeah I've been getting acquainted with many new websites, LS1Tech.com, LS1.com etc... I also checked out ThunderRacing's site and it looks like they have a pretty sweet operation running down there. I'll give them a call in the near future.
I'm running myself ragged working during the day, working on the car in the evenings, then spending countless hours on the computer at night. But you know, I wouldnt trade it for anything right now. I'm sure the end product will be well worth it.
Today I continued pulling more stuff out of the engine bay. The rest of the HVAC stuff on the firewall (found out a critter of some sort was calling the Blower housing a home for a while), and started cleaning a little. I also spent a couple hours just trying to get the header collector bolts out, but finally got them. Looks like tomorrow will be the day the sixer comes out.
Nothing like a messy shop.

Looks like I got 2 threads going in the Engine Swap board now. I got side tracked and started rambling about cams when this was in the Appearance board. Sorry Mods. I intended to make it more appearance related, ie. grill, window tint, wheels etc... Again, sorry about that.

Little update: We got the v6 and tranny out of the car, now its totally stripped. Progress will probably slow down a bit, will be doing a good cleaning and prepping for some paint in the engine bay. Then sit back and wait for some parts to arrive. And also do some J-yard searching. This will be a good time to get the wheels polished and painted.

Update: We got the engine bay painted yesterday, needs to be wetsanded a little, but not too bad looking. I've painted other various parts for the engine bay also. I'll get some more pics. today, and post them tonight.
Motor mounts and tranny crossmember will be here Friday, so the motor and tranny will be in this weekend. Then I'll need to get the fuel pump in, and do something about the rear, and then maybe get a test drive in. Ahh, if everything goes well.
I'm probably looking at about another 3-4 weeks till its totally road worthy. I have no interior at the moment, so thats what the big hold up will be.
I'll post later with some pics.

Dude that is awesome..!!! Im from Texas also, have an Iroc also, and thinking of doing the exact same project (LS-1/ Auto). The downside is that Im no mechanic and wouldnt know what to do?
Ive been looking for a shop( In Texas) that does this kind of work or has experience about this swap. If everything goes well with your project, how much would you charge to do a swap like that? Id might be interested if the cost is fair. Good luck bro

The Bandit-Z : Where at in Texas do you live? I'm not a certified mechanic or anything, but wrenching does not bother me. Everyday repairs are kinda boring, but doing something custom really gets me going, and is something I enjoy doing. If you're around Paris you can stop by and check out the ride anytime. PM me if you're really serious about this. I know a couple of guys that can help out with finding motors, and a couple of dealership guys also.
Thanks for the replies guys, and I'll definatly keep everyone posted.
Oh, look what came in today.

Well guys I got set back a little bit. I was planning on getting the motor in this weekend, but the motor mounts took up more time than I thought they would. I dropped the lower A-arms and springs to access them better, which wasnt so bad but the spring compressor was giving me some trouble. Oh well, its all back together now. I'll probably get the motor in tomorrow anyways.
I also went and got a 92 5.7L in-tank pump this morning. Gonna use that along with a 99 vette filter/regulator. This way I only need one fuel line going to the motor. I still need to clean out the tank and install the pump. Then when I swap the rear out of the IROC, I'll slap the tank back in there. After all of that, on to wiring. I've already started splicing and soldering a little, but I havent touched the engine harness yet. I've been doing alot of research on this, and the wiring dosent seem like too big of a deal.
Heres some more pics.

You need to get the walbro high volume in-tank fuel pump. You will fry that stock unit real quick. Mine lasted about two months with not much driving.

Its out of a 99Z with 15k miles... supposedly. We'll see about that.
Does any one know the block codes for the engine years? I have a 2001 LS1/T-56 waiting for me with 11k on the. I just want to make sure that the year is correct and the guy isn't blowing smoke up my butt.
If you dont have LS1edit you might whant to get your hands on the software. ($550) So you can turn off the VATS and skipshift ( If you do a T-56 swap) plus it will alow you to get rid of the emissions crap too!!
Sorry if you already knew that but I have been reading alot and wanted to share what I found.
Were are you going to place the computer bacause LS1 cars have them under the hood? I plan on getting a Speartech standalone harness so I can put in back up in the dash. The only draw back in that I will need to do a little splicing even after paying for the harness. I think the cost will pay off in the long run because I don't want the thing under the hood.
So how are we going to get the new found power to the ground? I am going with a set of ZR1 wheels and putting some 315 out back. I was told they will fit but we will have to wait and see.
Good luck with your project!!

I have a spohn adjustable panhard bar, tubular LCAs, and a BMR adjustable torque arm. You will have to bend the rear lip back to get the 315s in. I will probobly get the regular 285s when I am ready. They should fit w/o a problem. Right now I feather the throttle to aviod tracktion problems.

I think the insides will need some TLC to fit the 315 too. I will have to look at it later but the body work is not a big deal. I just dont want any rubbing when I go down a back road. The front wheels have me more concerned than the rears because I still want to be able to steer.

Mmmm.... tasty
Now you just need a set of Corvette fuel rail covers, like FLYNLOW92 did with his.
You using the stock exhaust manifolds on the LS1, or you gonna pick up a set of headers for 'er?

Burn: I got my SN# on the back of the block I believe, then went to www.Mortec.com to verify. About the power getting to the ground, so far I only have some BFG DR's off the IROC, but will be getting LCA's, SFC's, Drag Launch kit, and some other goodies down the road. I seriously thinking about getting LS1 Edit, or just I just might let AMS do all of the tuning. I'm going to have them install my cam also.
Air_Adam: I dont think anyone has made headers for our swaps yet. The only way to do it is if you also get a tubular K-Member, or have some custom headers made.
Thanx for all of the comps guys.
Lookie here.

Also, I'm going to go ahead and put the ECM inside of the car. It will be more work, but it will clean up the engine bay alot. Gonna run the wires through the fire wall, where the old HVAC wires used to run through.
Need to see if any thing can be done about the tranny dipstick and tube. The thing sticks out way too far for my preference.
Also... the drivers side O2 sensor is really tight. Does anyone know if the make a smaller sensor? The wires are smashed in there.

01-02 Exhaust manifolds flow better than shorties. You will need custom headers if you go that route.
You can relocate the o2 sensor to the beginig y-pipe where it exits the exhaust manifold. I am surprised it fit at all.
