350 TPI compatibility with 305 tbi
Well,
Ive had enough of the underpowerd LO3/305 tbi....Im looking for a new engine even though i just rebuilt my 305 tbi....I came across a 350 long block that was out of a 1989 camaro...it doesnt have the intake but it does have the heads...It was a TPI so i was wondering if i could bolt up my 305 edelbrock intake to the 350 long block tpi motor and call it good? Also all the accessories should line up also? And would i have to change the computer and change the TBI?All and any info will be greatly appreciated.

Engine: 357 vortec finished. need tuning
Transmission: Still works
Axle/Gears: need 3.73
Yes you can use the 350 and install your tbi setup on it as well with no problem. As far as sensors goes, you would need a 350 knock sensor to go with the 350. The rest of the sensor on your 305 can be used on the 350. Your current ECM will work with the 350 but best to have a custom chip burned to get optimum use out of the 350 engine.

However, with the right tune you can peform basically the same as a 350 TPI car. I would keep the motor off to the side for now and build it up. In the meantime, get familiar with chip work. It will be the most crutial factor.

If you are in no hurry to install the engine, I would do what ShiftyCapone has posted and set it aside and maybe build the 350. Maybe get a bigger cam, get some work done on the heads, and upgrade to aftermarket headers. Maybe you can find a 454 TBI to replace your current tbi. This is what I have and currently playing with it in regards to making it bigger to feed my 350 vortec. If the 454 tbi does not work then I will go with a carb set up.
