1990 RS 305 TBI swap to 350
ive got a 1990 RS with a 305 tbi, the motor is in really good condition, and only has 90 k on it. but i want more power, and instead of going into the engine and modifying it, i just wanna get a new crate 350.
my question is with the tbi system and computer set up of my is there a crate 350 that would be easier for me to make the switch how about that 350/330 H0 would i need a whole new computer system or what other motor is possible
any ifno or links would be much appreciated

yeah i did thanks for the info, now one more question if you guys were doing it, would you go for the brand new crate engine, with all the new parts, or try to find a 350 out of a junkyard?
Also with me buying the engine and everything else needed to complete the job, what do you think a ballpark price would be for a mechanic to pull mine out, put the new one in and hook it up??
any ideas, any one had one done recently?

i was thinking the motor should be the last thing i put in, i want everything else to be right first, i just got done doing a complete exhaust, what exactly to i need to do to my stock tranny, and what do i need to do the the rearend, and what else do i need to to besides the sub frame connectors, i just replaced the fuel pump in the car so it is brand new.

Rear end: There's a tech article about that linked from the thirdgen.org homepage.
Transmission: Check out the Transmission and Drivetrain forum. You'll probably want a converter that stalls higher than stock, but you really need to know your engine before you can choose that.
What else? Unless you put in something other than a stock replacement TBI fuel pump, you'll probably be doing that again.

Fuel pump is key! I was being cheap and used a brand new tbi replacement. 1000 miles later the tbi replacement quit. The price of the tow-truck plus efficient pump and labor! Don't cheat yourself. I'm n Miami. I travel to daytona every other week.
Feel free to ask questions. I did your same swap!

hey how about that Ram Jet 350 crate engine. I was talking to my mechanic today and he said that, that engine would be the way to go.
What do you guys think, and what would i have to change out to do it, obviously i cant run that with my Throttle body, but he said all it would be is switching out a couple of cables to make that engine work, that and a new fuel pump.

Re: 1990 RS 305 TBI swap to 350
I honestley would go for the 350 Deluxe kit.... $3400 and it's got 330HP and mine gets 15mpg in a 4500lb truck.
The Ram Jet 350 is just a fancy EFI motor for $2000 more and of course your mechanic suggests it, he would get a lot of hours of labor installing it since you will need to swap out the entire wiring harness.
Here the link you need as posted in your other post...

Re: 1990 RS 305 TBI swap to 350
he never said anything about the wiring harness, he said he could do the ram jet for about 750, and to switch to carb and go with the 330 HO, he said probably 1000.
do you have any idea how much the wiring harness costs for the ram jet 350?

Re: 1990 RS 305 TBI swap to 350
ok what happened?
did you use the 330 hp or not?
i have to use the 290 because my tpi will not work on later heads, and edelbrock does not make it for later engines.
hope all went well.
