GN 3.8 swap

Hi All,

I am new to this forum but not to the car world. I was heavily involved in the import scene with my eclipse but have now acquired a 1992 camaro RS with a 3.1L in it (5s manual).

I would like to swap a 1987 GN T engine into it. Should I start with a long block and build from there or try and find a used engine? Or try and build up my current motor and put a turbo in it? I must have a turbo V6, the V8's are nice but I like the gas mileage of a 6 . I have read on the GN forum that the GN motor doesnt accept manual tranny's, is this true? If not what tranny can I use for this engine? What am I looking at price wise for doing this build? (I can put the engine in myself) Any info would be great or just point me in the right direction......

Re: GN 3.8 swap

TTAs started with the GN V6, but had different heads & (i think) different turbo.

So you'd probably be better off starting with a short block & going from there, so your not having to tear down (like the heads) & buy new/different ones.

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.

There is a tech article on this topic linked from the thirdgen.org homepage.

The GN's & TTA's had TH200-4R's behind them.
