I hope this will be useful for people considering and participating in the same swap I am working on. I am putting a v8 with a converted lt1 intake in a 92 camaro that originally had the 3.1L v6. I thought I was going to have to buy a TPI Speed Density harness, but was curious what work would be involved in modifiying the existing 3.1 harness to work for a TPI motor. I finally found the pinouts for the 3.1 cars here (Computer pinout diagram needed please) and in the articles section of thirgen.org, there is a link that shows the diagrams for a 90-92 SD harness. I just finished a comparison and it appears that with the exception of a few(5-10) differences the harnesses are basically the same. In fact most of the differences should not affect the running of the engine. I recently acquired a 90 Firebird with the 3.1 that i originally wanted for parts for my 84 Trans AM. It is a nice virgin body though (and actually starts and drives) and hate the thought of scrapping another 3rd gen so i have been looking into swapping a 305TPI (i already have a 305 short block and heads) into it. I've been searching and learning a lot about what's involved in swapping to TPI. Im glad to know that i already have the '730 comp, and was thinking the same thing about modding the original harness.
Have you made any progress with your swap? Any tips or hints you can give me regarding the wiring harness changes?
I have already began gathering my TPI parts and am hoping to start the swap this winter, in the meantime i got some more research to do.
