383 Stroker Swap - Input on Price

Hi all....there is a local (to me) Craigslist add selling a 383 stroker block, 305 heads, Eddlebrock intake, Keith black pistons and forged rods for $500 obo. He says the block is ready to be put back together and all the pieces are new except for the heads and crank. I'm pretty much a newbie, but this sounds like a good deal to me. Can anyone confirm or deny that? Are there any questions I should ask him in particular? There are a bunch of pictures on the ad as well if anyone would like the link (not sure if that is allowed). I would be putting this into a 92 RS. Thanks all in advance.

Good rods are worth $500 alone. Sounds like a too good to be true deal from someone who got stuck with something not worth it. I'm making assumptions here but I'm guessing it's scammy or a crack head deal. And 305 heads for a 383 would be terrible.

Post the ad, I doubt anyone will have a problem with it. What I can tell you is that hypereutectic pistons are junk for any kind of a performance build, the 305 heads are likely useless on a 383. I wouldn't touch it if it isn't a roller block, and that will dictate using a 1 piece rear main seal crank. Late model blocks may have short cylinder walls, and I would suggest using 6" rods for that reason.

I'd be interested in the ad too. I've a fairly comprehensive list of what works and what doesn't in builds of this nature (and I'm assuming the nature but have a pretty good idea I think). Block, crank, rod and piston combination can all be used in various configurations and performance levels. The heads, intake and whatever else are of the bolt on variety so it's easy to mix and match depending on the other parts.

Build your own 383 with a 880 block. The 010 is a ok bloc but not roller. Junk 305 heads and a crank that needs ground. Not that great of a deal.

Probably not even a balanced rotating assembly

Re: 383 Stroker Swap - Input on Price

Looks like everything needs machining, the pistons look like they were stored in a concrete box, heads are useless to you. I'd say if you buy that you'd be $500 behind your end goal. Not the worst but there are better places to start

I am in total agreement with the others. The intake manifold is probably the only part I would be interested in if I was going to build a carbureted street 383.

Re: 383 Stroker Swap - Input on Price

Could someone explain the 880 block option? Should you start with a new block or used and which new block? Thank you..
