z28 exhaust manifolds on a sb400?

I am purchasing a sb 400 and some conversion parts for the turbo 350 trans. so cash is low right now. For the time being, can I put z28 exhaust manifolds on the 400 w/ 2.02 heads, and if I can how bad will it suffocate it? I will be getting headers in a couple of months. Is it o.k. to run for now??

I had the same situation

Yeah, it will work. MAJOR suffocation, though. It really made my motor run like poo. Scrape together any money you can and get FULL exhaust before any other mods, 1 3/4" headers and at LEAST single 3". Good luck!

I was looking at the Edelbrock 3" Cat-back exhaust and possibly Edelbrock headers. But the headers are only offered in 1-5/8 primaries as far as I have seen. Do you have any suggestions for other headers and do you think the 3" exhaust is the minimum? I looked into the Hooker 2460 headers but they dont come with the Y-pipe. I may have to have a y custom made anyway to go into the 3"exhaust. But I was hoping not to. Any ideas?

exhaust

I know it gets old hearing this, but SLP is by far the best way to go. I bought the SLP 1 3/4" primary headers with a Y-pipe and they fit great. I ordered a Hooker Cat-back that I'm hooking up to them. All in all, this setup was about $750, but I feel it was worth it considering ease of instalation and longetivity of the system. The Hooker longtubes (Supercomps) would be better performers (by a couple hp), but they are a pain to install full exhaust with since they don't come with a Y-pipe. I'd get those if you plan solely on dragracing and not street driving. But like I said, if you have some extra cash, get the SLP's. If you don't, save you pennies and get them, you will not be disappointed by any means.
