Need some advice fitting slp 1 5/8 headers

Tonight I removed the old y pipe and the passenger side manifold. When I removed the stock manifold I could not find a gasket. Did the manifolds not need gaskets? I have scraped both surfaces but I'm sure there is no gasket.

I had to remove some sensor on the head (what does this sensor do it is near cyl6 ) and the new header fitted in OK but I'm a little worried about the clearance. The header is about 3/16" from touching the inner wing and a solid coolant pipe (I'll move this a bit).

Please can you give me some idea of minimum clearance of a header tube to

a. a solid surface such as an inner wing to avoid paint burning off and as engine moves during acceleration to avoid it making contact.

b. unprotected cables such as those going to the starter motor which look quite close.

If you have slp headers fitted what is the gap betwen the passenger header and the inner wing?

Many thanks

Simon

If that sensor you mentioned is on the passenger side head, its a safe bet that its the temperature sensor for the electric fan. Thats about were it was on my 305 before i dumped it for a 350.

Also, since headers seem to have some grudge agaist plug wires (they always burn them), i would keep any wires or anything plastic (burnable, meltable) as far away from the headers as possible.. but i'd say about an inch and half minimum for the plug wires.
