Fart Pipe on an F Body?

laying aside all the negativity you'd get with the "Rice Boy" Image. What gains can be realized with attaching a "fart style" muffler onto you single intermediate pipe?

Anytime I feel like performance parts for thirdgens are getting too expensive, I like to pickup a copy of "Rice Tuner & Hi-Po Decals" magazine. You can find tons of companies selling "performance"(I use the term loosely here) exhausts with 1" pipes going into the muff, and a 4" tip stickin out of it. And your hard-earned $400 - $500 will net you 5 - 7 hp everytime you exceed 8000 rpm. Woo Hoo!

But, hey! Aren't you doing the math? 5 - 7 horses, FOR ONE MUFFLER! If you stacked three or four of those babies in series, that's like 20 - 28 more horse!

Just had an epiphany,...

I always wondered why the rice-crowd spends $3000 on a used Civic and stuffs a $10 000 badass stereo install in it(which you can hear from 2 counties away). It drowns out the wet fart sound emanating from their exhaust system.

too bad they'll never figure out when ya got a V8, ya don't need a stereo to own a great sounding ride.

I've seen a lot of the Accord coupes with dual big *** muffers on the back. I think they would look cool on maybe a 4thgen Firebird because of the bumper design but that's about it.

I've only seen one car in my life that actually looked good with dual farts and that was a newer 300ZX and it looked good and sounded really good. Not that annoying too-much-tacobell-rip sound, but a smooth low hum (can't say rumble 'cause those don't rumble..hehe).

I'd like to hear an Fbod V8 with dual farts just out of sheer morbid curiosity...

Hey I would put fart mufflers on my car but I might be tempted to stick a rag in the gas tank and light it.

I have a 3" intermediate to the converter, 2 3/4" to the muffler, into a Flowmaster 3 chamber single outlet 3" muffler to a 4" stainless tip out the drivers side.

Some people say it looks like a fart can, others say it looks/sounds tough.

I think its unique and has a great deep tone.

Jza & IROC5.7TPI: Thanks for looking at this objectively. That's my thinking, out of curiosity how would it sound and what kind of gains (if any). Exhaust noise is largely factored by what you have under the hood, so a "fart" pipe hooked to a big V8 might (I don't know, never seen it) render effective results.

Iroc - what part of suburbia Big D are you from? I used to live in Romulus.

I laugh my @$$ off when I see the guys who are too cheap to buy the real fart pipes and get the fake fart pipe tip on their car. Here is a fun game I play:

"Crap exhaust of Fart Pipe"
When you are driving down the road and here that annoying exhaust sound comming up from behind, I try and guess crappy exhaust or fart pipe, then let the car go past. Half the time it is a tip, the other half it is just a rusted out muffler or a missing system altogether.
