OMG! WTF did this guy do to my Borla Exhaust! HELP!

So I found out the exhaust on it is borla, thats what the muffler says.

BUT, it looks really weird and like someone messed it up big time... so I'm hope you guys can help me figure out how I can fix this and what I'll need, or if its how its suppose to be.

Thats what I think I have on now. See the part that has the single tube going into the borla tips? That part is normal on my car.

However, the second part, that has 2 pipes each going to its own little tip is where my car is different. Instead of 2, it is one pipe, and it attaches to the tip that splits like the other side..

And, one part of the muffler has 2 ports while the other side has one, but on my exhaust, it looks like the guy welded one of them, and then has the exhaust feed into the muffler from the non welded one, and before entering the muffler, using some kind of a Y split, he has the right exhaust pipe coming out with the borla tips attached to it.

The right side is really screwed up, pipe is cut up and bent and in bad condition, I just noticed it, I wish I saw it before I bought the car, but oh well.

Here is how it looks now:

LEFT SIDE:

See the single port on the exhaust, that side is normal.

RIGHT SIDE:

Notice the weld? And the pipe going into the muffler, is in really bad condition (cut up and all), and it has been poorly welded to create a Y split.

So what can I do? From what it looks like the car doesnt have the entire borla catback, just the rear part, is there some way to get replacement parts so I can replace those 2 missing pipes?

Should I cut up the part that is welded closed to try to get the exhaust back into its original form? Why would anyone do that to the exhaust?

Thanks!

Suke

Looks like they tried to turn a same-side-dual system into a dual-opposite system. In about the worst way possible.

By the time you get that all sorted out, you might as well buy a new system.

(For all their reputation, I can't believe they use a 2-1/2" expanded to 3" for an inlet.)

Actually, I just saw this pic...

and now I'm thinking this is the system that is installed, but either way, that left side has one of the ports welded, so instead of at one pipe going in and another coming out, the muffler is using ONE port for both purposes via very poor fabrication.

It looks like they tried to make a generic "loud mouth" system from a borola muffler.

I would just get a new cat-back. The right side isn't even stainless and is about the worst hack job I have ever seen. By the time you have it repiared it would be cheaper to bolt up a new $250 cat-back of your choice.

Yea, I guess, I was kind of trying to preserve the borla cuz i always wanted one, but that doesnt look promising.

I guess the muffler is destroyed anyway? Because the previous guy cut off the the pipe on the left side and welded it shut for some reason... so does that mean I can't repair this system?

just bite the bullet and get a new cat back system...looks like some rust on that "rustproof" stainless Borla system too

Ditto. I have a perfect somewhat-stock-replacement cat-back on my car if you want that... Probably less than 3k miles on it Not sure of the pipe size, at least 2.5". My buddy said it looked like the Ravin setup, but I'm not sure. I've gotten a lot of complements on the sound for being "just stock" I'll be replacing it with a 3" SLP cat-back

Ok then I guess I'll start considering some new systems, but not before I give this one a try!!!

If its going to be garbage anyway wouldn't hurt to mess around with it. I'm going to cut up that welded port, and get some cheap piping and try to get them bent for cheap and have that go out into the right back, and i'll weld the tips on it.

And that part that has the broken pipe going into it, I'll just remove that and put in a new pipe bent to the rite measurements.

How much would all that cost, like $50?

Holy hack job. Cut it off, and get yourself a new Spintech or Flowmaster setup and be done with it. That "rustproof" Borla setup cost twice what a Flowmaster setup would cost and they don't rust.

After further examination, you have a Corsa muffler as opposed to a Borla. Borlas are much slimmer and have the rolled edge seams. Corsas are much larger cased and have the flat welded edges like yours. Check it out here.

You probably have borla pipes though. I don't think Corsa makes that passenger side connection like that.

Yeah, after looking at that picture:

The exhaust shape and angle does match this corsa more, but the muffler actually said borla on it, on both sides, I noticed it with a flash light.

And yea, I don't think borla makes one that fits the passenger side like that also, I think the previous owner welded shut the part that suppose to go the pipe w/ tips, and then combined the pipe from the engine and the one going out to right side tips and just stuck it in the wrong port.

I'm not going to let it go without a fight I'll make this damn thing work one way or another!

Oh man, just give up. You can have a good system built at any local muffler shop cheap compared to fixing that. Look at how rusty it is. You are going to have to replace it pretty soon anyways. Don't waste your $ on fixing something that can't really be fixed.

Check these out. Mandrel bent quality systems with a Flowmaster copy for under $200.

Is the word "Borla" written on it with a black magic marker?

That looks terrible. Half of it is all rusted - stainless doesn't rust like that. If anything at all, the previous owner bought a borla muffler and tips and had the rest made. That's just about the ugliest exhaust job I've seen. Dump it.

The borla is stamped on it, like an engraving except inside out lol, I can't think of the right word right now

The right half that is rusted isn't using borla pipes (a part of this guys sick, unsightly performance modification) which may explain the rust.

I might just let it go then, or get another borla from thunder racing, when I get a job in august/september, expensive stuff.

Yes, it does. In the industry, it is known as "corrosion resistant steel". Nobody expects it to be "rust-proof steel". WD-40 was developed to protect the "corrosion resistant steel" tanks of ICBM rockets back in the late 50's. Without the WD-40, the "stainless" will form rust pits pretty quick. If you use plain steel tools on it, such as steel wool or a wire brush, you will embed steel particles that will rust and take the "stainless" with it.

FWIW, Borla makes a system for 3rd gens that does pretty much what this guy tried - single inlet & outlet, dual-opposite tailpipes with the passenger side tapping off the muffler inlet (end of I-pipe). It's supposed to be "adjustable" for flow and sound using the passenger side tailpipe. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...%204294923429%
