Side exit exhaust thru the body

anybody done this? i've seen many people do it under the body, and it just doesn't look good IMO...has anybody actually cut a hole in the body and run a single big tip out each side??? i was wondering if I could route side exit pretty easy, and have it exit through the body in the size of a 3.5-4.5 inch tip...also does the exhaust flowing accross your rear wheels deteriate your rims or anything....i know on my 97 f150, they put a single side exit right before the right rear tire, adn there was a recall because it was eating up the rims..but that was in the perfect postion so the exhaust flowed directly over the wheel, and that wasn't through tthe body either....do you think if you had it exiting thru the body that it wouldn't cause that problem??

you could do this, but it would require cutting into the floorboard. if you get under the car and look, you will see that the gfx are pretty much flush with the floor board. check it out.

your right..i just looked...but if i wanna get any type of muffler in there, i'm gonna have to modify the floorboard anyways....is this that hard? all i gotta do is cut out the section, take some sheet metal or something and box it right back in am i right? and that will be in the backseat area won't it?

honestly dude, i cannot explain this without looking at it. your going to have to get the car up off the ground and start looking. lay it all out in your head while your under there. measure a lot before you go to cut ANYTHING!

you could always just drop the gfx or make extensions to it to make it wider or taller so that way you dont have to cut up your floorboards. anyways just a thought

yea thats a good idea, i don't know how i would actually just drop the gfx, that would look kinda wierd and outta place....but i'm thinking of just running them right tight to the floorboard, then just cut a semicircle hole in the gfx, so it hides half of the tip at least...kinda like what the ford lightning truck has....i dunno, i'll think about it, and see what i can do...i just wanted to know if anybody has done this, and if they have some pictures...i think it would look really mean...

by dropping i mean like mold on extensions so that they are longer or taller or whatever. maybe cut another side gfx in half and like mold it to your other

Are you talking about side pipes?? If not or so, I have been thinking, what if you eliminated the fiberglass GFX and cut the metal behind it(all along the rocker panel) to open up some room. Obviously there would be some need for re-enforcement. Then you could run a pipe down the side along the cut out rocker panel and then fabricate a new GFX, this time it would be made out of sheet metal. It would give you that O.E. look but similar to the SVO pipes. Just a dream though.

I think he means something like the pipes on this 'Vette, but you could do it like the Roush Mustangs (I know..... ) where they notch out the leading edge of the rear wheelwell for the exhaust

I know I'm post-whoring, but it's late, and I am contribuiting to the thread here, so cut me some slack.

Here's a thread featuring a not-so-terriffic shot of a white T/A with the 'Trans-Am' style exhaust:
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...e+exit+exhaust

This is a nearly two-year-old thread with a thru-the-body exit behind the rear wheels.

Enjoy. I've gotta quit stalling and get my Finals finished.
