headers?

I originally wanted to put SLP 1 3/4 shorties on but they only make them coated now and cost like 659.99 us and requires an install kit for like 100 US! So instead I was thinking of going with the mac shorties that are 1 5/8 for like 400 US. Do the gains of slp coated vs mac (stainless I think) justify the money spent? The slp tech says that the 1 3/4 are way better for an LT1, is this true or is the difference neglegible? Also, will I have any install issues being that it is a swapped engine? Thanks!

AH! AH!! NO, stay away from the edelcrap! Have you seen those headers? NOT, I repeat NOT!! a performance choice. 1 5/8.. but when you look down at where they 'collect', they pinch/flatten it down. You have an LT1.. so that would be a nono on the edelcrap. Look at the collectors. The first pic would be the edelbrock. The second would be Hooker (2055's) i think..

I have to agree, having them and seeing how crimped the primaries are into the collectors and also the how crimped the pipes are where they come together to form the single I am pretty sure I know why my car does not run the 1/4 like it should.

13.7 @ 100 running a 350 9.5/1, GM hot cam, HSR and SLP 3' cat back with no cat.

Chevy High Performance magazine dyno tested a smog-type 350 at 380 HP with Edelbrock TES headers, y-pipe, and 3" muffler. That doesn't say "junk" to me. Of course, they didn't repeat the run with 2055's, and when they actually put the engine in the car with the LG4 TES, the car didn't run the numbers at the track. Apparently there was a significant difference between the dyno'd headers (which I assume were the TPI single-cat variety) and the LG4 headers w/EFE and small cat.

2055's are listed by Holley as '86-'90 TPI single cat. That's because the A.I.R. and y-pipe-to-cat interfaces are consistent between those years of TPI, and the headers fit them. The primaries are your basic Gen I SBC port lay-out, and the LT1 bolts on the same way. I believe LT1 ports are D-shaped, so you may want to port-match the 2055 primaries - this may require welding around the primaries on the outside of the flange so you have material to hog out, because the primaries are only welded on the head-side of the flange.

Otherwise, the 2055's fit any 3rd gen chassis with a Gen I/II SBC engine.

I talked to a tech a hooker and he told me that I should go with 1 3/4 lond tubes because of the LT1's d ported heads. The only problem is that I want to stay emissions legal so I'm gonna stick to my original plan and go with the SLP 1 3/4 shorties. But man they are expensive!
