Straight through muffler size/tone question
I am looking at getting a Magnaflow 3" straight through muffler. There are two sizes available that i am interested in. Both are 3" inlet & outlet, round and 14" long, but one has an overall width of 4" and the other 6". As i am making my own exhaust system from the cat back i would rather the 4" due to ground clearance, etc. However, would the 4" sound be raspy and high-pitched (ie crap) compared to the 6"? Would the 6" have a deeper growl due to its bigger chamber?

From my experience and dyno testing, the larger chambers always sound
deeper and produce more power.
They resonate at a lower RPM/frequency so it tends
to pound more at idle.
The downside may be a touch more interior hum, but it's tough to say how it
will react with the motor set up.
