copper or aluminum gaskets?

I need to replace my header gaskets on my IROC. I've got an LB9 305 with square port heads and 1 5/8 inch round port Edelbrock TES headers. I've heard good things about both copper and aluminum gaskets. Which one seals the best, and is reuseable? Or do both seal well and are reuseable? A friend of mine swears by Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets and another friend swears by copper gaskets. Both are similarly priced($35-40.00) and I don't mind spending the money on quality gaskets. Which ones do you guys recommend I go with?

Re: copper or aluminum gaskets?

Yep, ither ones, they are reusable and worth the money, paper or other composite gaskets suck.

I have had my copper gaskets on 5 different motors and they still seal fins.

Re: copper or aluminum gaskets?

i notice that the aluminum gaskets r a lot thicker....Most aftermarket headers come with 3/4" long bolts, so does that mean that if u use the aluminum ones I would need to get 1" long bolts??...

and im with darkride86t/a......seems like the opinions between the 2 are split down the middle making it real hard to decide on which to use.

Re: copper or aluminum gaskets?

I was at work today and another guy was telling me copper was the way to go, but the aluminum ones are also good. My local Autozone sells both and actually has Percy's dead soft aluminum gaskets in stock($34.99) The local Advanced Auto has Mr. Gasket .043 inch thick solid copper gaskets, with 1.63 inch round ports for $40.00

Re: copper or aluminum gaskets?

I am just indifferent, both last, i think if you had a slightly warped primary flange the aluminum would more than likely be the way to go.
