Re: smog canister removal?

its cos it contains platnium and metal prices are sky high. people are even stealing them off of cars along with copper. scrapping is a pretty big business in buffalo. If you have a truck you can make some big $$$$. one time i left a brake rotor out with the garbage it was gone within 20 minutes.

Re: smog canister removal?

It had platinum when you bought it, i dont see how reclaimation prices they pay you would be higher than the manufacturer charging you.

And who is stealing cats off cars ? You'd have to hacksaw through exhaust and probably the hanger holding it to the car. If you wanted to make money it would be much quicker and easy to just break the window and steal crap. I find it hard to imagine people running under parked cars and hacksawwing used cats rather than just smash-grabbing whatever's inside.

People would steel the loose car parts because they're free. Stick a broken grill out on the street and it'll be gone in the same amount of time. Hell, even a broken drier will be taken. It's not for the scrap value. rotors aren't made of any valueable/rare metal.

I'm not saying you didn't get whatyou say you got. Just that it's pretty crazy that you'd be able to buy a new cat, then take it to that scrap yard and come out making money. Why wouldn't you just do that all day long as your fulltime job?

Re: smog canister removal?

obviously people that steal cats aren't too bright, there the same retards (crackheads) that steal air conditioners and copper piping. If you dont believe me google it for news articles. I really did get 90 a piece for them. A truckload of steel could net you 300 bucks. Ive heard that some ones on imports you can even get like 200 for them. BUT from what ive heard the NEW ones that you buy dont have as much platnium in them, especially the universal ones.

Re: smog canister removal?

just another note on removing the smog canister, you don't need a vented gas cap, i used my old one, only difference is when you go to get gas when you open it it sounds like you just opened a bottle of pop shhhhhhhhhhhhh
