Hedman y-pip fitment problem need help!
I did a search and cant seem to find anyone with the same problem, bu the y pipe that i bought along with my hedman shorty headers doesnt fit...
the pipe that extends to the drivers side header isnt long enough, and the section the connects the 2 pipes into one hits the chassis of the car...
im gonna return it an have one custom made, unless there is some specific way of putting it on right...
if anyone can help me that has had a similar problem id appreciate it...
thanks!

it sounds like your on the right track if its not long enough then there is really nothing you can do because if you try to lengthen it then the angle is going to be off where did you get the y pipe if you dont mind me asking

i bought the y pipe from summit along with the shorty headers that were matching...
but my pops knows a guy at a muffler shop and the giy said for the price of a custome y pipe he can make me and entire true dual exhaust for a couple hundred more... sounds like a plan to me... and ill send back the shorty headers as well and get me the long tubes... should give me a nice boost in power...

I also bought hedman shorties with y-pipe and have the same problem. I think in my particular situation it's because I'm replacing the 305 engine with a 350 and the pan is deeper?

the pan wont be any deeper unless you bought a deep sump oil pan...
but it aggravates me because its supposed to be a direct fit part...

i had this exact problem way back in 2000 when i put them on my car.
trip to the muffler shop with open headers. they added about 3" of pipe to the hedman y pipe.
aggrevating!

I never had a problem with mine...
A common mistake is not letting the headers hang loose enough to allow play for proper alignment... You need to bolt the collectors to the Y-Pipe before fully tightening the headers to the block...

Re: Hedman y-pip fitment problem need help!
I bought the Headman shorty a year ago and they came with extensions for a dual cat set up. I was never really happy as the outside pipe actually hit the front passenger wheel on hard right turn. I tried to buy that extension kit to modify my problem and Headman said they no longer make it. I just installed a T56 so I modified my old cats by piecing and welding the old headman into a Flowmaster dual cat Y collector into 3" all the way back. $399 from Summit and it looks and sounds nice. I would say if you have a competant exhaust guy it would be best to have him fabricate the setup under the engine. I used a series of 45 's to make a gradual 90 and it worked well. Took a lot of welding.

Sorry to hear your having problems. I got the Hedman HED-68470 headers and the Hedman HED-17478 Y-Pipe and they fit great on my car. I would give them a call before sending them back. Good luck.
