Re: glasspacks sound question
I had one for a while
Sounded like a worn out farm truck
Check out a powerstick before you go glasspack

Re: glasspacks sound question
Please don't put glasspacks with dumps on your stock 305. It will sounds hideous and helps make 3rd gens look bad as a whole. Spend the $250-$400 on a properly fitting stock-routed catback system.
Words everyone should live by: Make your car sound good by increasing horsepower, not by subtracting exhaust.

Here's my 383 with hooker 2055 shorties and a magnaflow 18129 "glasspack" clamped right on the Y-pipe.
I used quotes cuz its not a true glasspack, its a perforated core with stainless packing (I think). Whereas your Thrush will have a louvered core and fiberglass packing, for about a week, then it will just be a hollow pipe.

Log truck.
The only way people can pull off glasspacks is if it's stock manifolds and crappy stock Y-pipe. The flow is restricted so much it's just not as loud as it woudl be otherwise, but that is only because the exhaust SEVERELY choked off near the engine. The only other way people can pull off glasspacks is if they have a big cam and they're almost deaf and dont mind the horrendous racket.

My "restrictive" (as the "experts" say at least) Flowmaster American Thunder catback... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vqetEtQLq8
Unless you're standing right behind it, my car is actually pretty quiet compared to most others in it's league. Flowmaster isn't really a sound I like but I bought the whole catback/y-pipe used for cheap and have been running it for years. One of these days I'll probably change the muffler to something even quieter.

Re: glasspacks sound question
I've got glasspacks on my truck (were on when I bought it) mated to a 283. It's a lot of unnecessary noise and drone. It's a work truck I don't drive often, so it's fairly amusing. On your car, you will hate it. Don't do it.

Not sure that link will work. If it does, it doesn't really do the sound justice anyway. Imagine that sound amplified so that it is thrumming the hell out of your ears.
Edit: It didn't work so I removed it, oh well, it sounded good in my video and that wasn't the intention at all...

Re: glasspacks sound question
I had a glasspack on my 355 with a setup pretty close to duals and 3 inch piping all the way. With the glasspack it sounded really badass.
Tried same setup On a mild stockish 305..it wasnt the same, i recommend you getting a vortec cherry bomb a friend of mine has one on his 305 bird and it sounds pretty mean even for a 305.
Goodluck!

Re: glasspacks sound question
well i threw them on for s**ts n giggles, and i loved the sound,it was quiet at idle, and screamed from 2000-4500 rpm,but im going to move it to right before the rear end and dump it,due to vibration, pipe over the rear end is bent from exhaust mount being bad before
