3 link whatd'ya think

heard a lot of autocrossers in my class are switching to a 3 link to get better bite coming out of the corners so i thought i'd give it a try. after months of research and a lot of math this is what i came up with. every piece homemade in the garage

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

I like the choice to offset the upper link. That should help it stay nice and even on exits when you apply the power in the lower gears.

I would keep an eye on the welds around the axle bracket though. That upper link see's a lot of force. Keep an eye on it, and if you see any signs at all of deformation, or cracking you are going to want to add some additional support.

BTW, who do you auto-x with down in springfield?

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

i autocross with eescc in eugene/springfield and with acco in bend/redmond. non of the other cp-ers in my club have the 3 link but it seems a lot of nationally competative cars run them

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

the only thing that makes me nervous is that i used 5/8 rod ends with only a 12,000 lb. rating. i almost think i'll need to replace them with heavier duty ones before competition

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

Looks good. Lots of adjustment. Just wondering how long the upper link is.Going with a torque absorber style bar might be a good idea but if that bar is as short as I think it is you won't have enough room to fit one.

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

upper link is 15" hole to hole. i wanted to go with a torque absorber style but at the time i was unemployed and racing season is coming up fast so i just decided to go the cheapest and fastest route. i still have a ton of work to get this car ready to race

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

It is the same length as mine then. I just must have everything farther forward because my front mount is allmost even with the main hoop on the cage.

I did build a bracket off of my torque arm mount for the upper link on the axle but it go's back to the top of the housing so I am not sure where the difference is.

I understand about being unemployed. That where I am right now, Laid off right before Christmas and not a decent paying job around. The good thing about it is I am getting my own very small business going. Another month or 2 I should be making ends meet again and by mid Summer I should be very busy. The best part is never needing to worry about being laid off again. I hope I never need to work for anyone again.

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

ya i'm back to work now but now i have the money and no time to work on it.
My front hoop is a couple inches further forward than most i've seen. My rear mount is about an inch behind of the centerline of the axle so that may be why it looks so different

Re: 3 link whatd'ya think

Looks good. That doesn't look like the stock 7.5" ten bolt. Is that a Dana?

You should check out www.frrax.com. You'd fit in good over there.
