1988 Firebird GTA with T-Tops 2-owner
I'm looking to sell this in the spring and I have no idea what the true value of the car is. It has 79,000 original miles on it. I bought it from the original owner back in 2002 and have stored it in my garage ever since under a car cover, driving it only occasionally. It's in fairly good shape for a 32 year old car but it does need some things. I'll start with that then list the good things. If you fellas could give me an idea of what it would be worth, I'd appreciate it. I can also provide more pictures if anyone wants them. Thanks in advance for any help.
Things it needs...
Things it needs...
- Tires... very badly. I never wanted to pay for new ones because they're so expensive. It still has Goodyear Eagles on it. Oh the shame!
- Headliner - Shouldn't be too bad since it has T-Tops (more on that in the good)
- Front and Rear suspension work. Last time I drove it, I got some popping in the left front which I'm assuming are the ball joints. Popping in right rear under heavy acceleration
- Oil leak. I'm assuming it's the rear main seal but it could be front as well as old as it is. (by the way, it's a 5.0 liter, automatic car)
- Rear spoiler deterioration. Probably needs replaced.
- Left front fender paint fade. It's not horrible. I think the lady who owned it originally had a minor fender bender and the repair paint is fading after 20+ years.
- Dents and dings here and there, but not awful
- The digital dash works. There are a couple of LED segments out where the mileage is in the center console, but everything else is like new.
- T-Top gaskets are like new. Barely leaks anything when I wash it (it hasn't seen rain in many years).
- Original GTA wheels are pretty much like new.
- Interior is in good shape with only minor wear (other than the headliner mentioned above).
- Headlights work OK. I replaced the dry-rotted plastic gears 10 years or so ago.
- Power antennae works. I replaced the old one 15 years or so ago with one out of another Pontiac model as I couldn't find one for a Firebird.
- Runs OK. Could probably use a tune up.
- All the badges and GTA stuff are still intact.

Located just east of Indianapolis, IN.
I believe the under body is fine.but I haven' been under it in a long time. It's been garaged since I've owned it in 2002; never seen snow since then and very little rain.
I've had a request for more pictures. I'll try to do that this weekend and take some of the under body if the weather clears up. I'll post them here. Any particular area to get some under body photos of? I'm not sure where the bad spots usually are.

Re: 1988 Firebird GTA with T-Tops 2-owner
Steve, Indianapolis was a hard market for me to sell my 82,000 mile Gunmetal Grey Gta in. It was a very nice car, had fresh paint all new plugs, injectors, headers, exhaust A/C had just been converted and fixed. Had the digital dash, steering wheel controls and was a 350 hardtop auto. The only and I mean ONLY negative thing about the car was that it had rear end noise under throttle. All that being said it sold for right at $8,000 and took several months to sell.
To me, being a GTA lover and a Pontiac enthusiast, I'd put this at $2500-$3500. The T-Tops are a plus when selling but the 5.0L even though it's damn near the same HP as the 5.7L stock is a negative. I would start around $5500 or so asking price and slowly drop it from there. Depends on how fast you wanna sell it.

mwill, thanks so much for the feedback. That was exactly what I was looking for here. I now know it's not worth putting 3000 or 4000 into to get more profit. That said, I'm in no hurry at all to sell it. I think I'll start at $6500. It's so original I want to make sure whomever buys it is serious about it.
Did you try selling yours on-line? Pics will be in next reply or two. The interior needs cleaned pretty badly. I also didn't have access to a lift so the under body shots are kind of lame. Sorry.

Nice quick sale I love it! If I weren't so opposed to owning a red car I would have been contacting you as I've been looking to buy something to drive in the summers while rebuilding my '68 Firebird.
