69 camaro rs for 91 camaro z28 convertible
first off, i didnt know where to post this, figured this would be the best place, but anyways.
alright, i was talking to a guy that lives about 2 1/2 hours away. and he tells me he has a 69 camaro rs (which is my #1 dream car) he said everything under the hood is brand new (350, dunno whats in it yet). and the front end has been rebuilt. turbo 350 tranny(rebuilt) the interior is decent and the car is in primer. he said most work has been done to it, that the last thing left is it needs a new trunk pan. and he goes on to tell me that its for sale and yadda yadda yadda and only wants $6000 for it.
and i tell him i have a 91 z28 convertible all original and good stuff like that. tell him what looks like, mileage and everything. and he says he might be willing to trade and he'll let me know friday.
so what do ya'll think? im not to sure yet. it is my dream car and my convertible was my #2 dream car. i dont know if i should hold on to the convertible or take him up on that offer.(if he decides he wants to trade)
if i decide i might want to do this we're supposed to meet half way so we can look at each others cars and yadda yadda yadda.
but anyways, what would ya'll do in my situation?
1st gen and 3rd gen camaro's all the way!!!

If it is a TRUE 69 RS Camaro then it may not be a bad deal. However, you need to go over that car with a fine tooth comb.
If it is not the original, numbers matching engine and tranny, thats a big minus to the value of the car. Anyone can graft a RS front end on a Camaro. My 68 convt had a 67 RS front end. They guy just cut the sidemarker lamps on the fenders. The giveaway was the 67 used electric headlamp covers, 68/69 used vacuum assisted covers.
You need to get a 1st gen expert to look over this car. That's a big trade.

im pretty sure its not the original motor/tranny, but do you know how to tell if it was an actual RS, maybe like little things on the front end or in the VIN?

I almost traded my old camaro off for a 67 firebird straight up and later found out after I sold it to someone else that his car was only worth 4 grand. Make sure you know what your getting into.

yeh i've been trying to put as much thought into this as possible. its just not very easy since its a 50/50 thing, since both of these cars are my 2 favorite cars ever. this is about the toughest decision i've ever had, but i'm kinda leaning towards keeping the 'vert.

Keep your 91 Vert. Remember, a Blast from the past is nothing like the wind in you hair on a warm sunny day. :lala: :lala: :lala:

The 69 Rally Sport will have the Rally sport badging on the fenders. If its strictly an RS, the grill will say "RS". The next thing to look for would be the rear back up lights. The RS didn't implement them in the tail lights. They were in the lower valence. Some people just put the RS front on the car and expect nobody to notice the rear valence is the standard one.

Well it is going to be a tough choice. But keep in mind that it might be easier to find another 91 convert. than it is to find a 69 maro. I seem to have the best of both worlds. I own a 74 Nova and a 88 bird. I would look into the 69 car, see what condition, motor, and look at the frame. I would have to say that if the 69 checked out I would go for it. That is just my .10, my .02 was free.
A car is only worth what somebody is willing to pay for it.
