82 firebird with a bw 4 speed ?
My brother found a car at a junkyard, it might be an 82 , it has a 6 in it. Its also a standard , is the tranny a bw 4 speed or is it a t5 and does it matter if its a 4 speed that its comeing from a 6 . I really want it for all the linkage . ALso what would a set of pmd seats sell for, they need to be recovered. thanks .

It's more likely to be a Saginaw than a BW T10. I don't recall offhand exactly how to tell them apart; something to do with where the reverse lever goes into the case.

The 4-speed will have all it's shifting linkage exposed and in plain sight - rods and levers, etc. The linkage in a T5 is all 'hidden'.

Agreed, 4 sp not 5 sp in 82. But won't the linkages be different between a BW and a Saginaw?

Sure. I'm actually in the process of switching to a TH350 (T-10 is spoken for BTW) so the tranny is out of the car and it's easy to take pictures of it.

borg warner have internal shifter in tail,
saginaw have external shifter rods
and yeh sag= iron case
borg= aluminum case
borg made a 4 speed they wer eint he 87 s-10 trucks i know, i have one such truck i cut up and kept the borg 4 speed from
but s-10 shifter is farther back on the tranny than F body so,,
crappy.,
but i have everything, flywheel clutch setup, hydraulic clutch system, slave cylinder, pedals assembly underdash, everything cept throwout bearing and pilot bearing hehe
probably gonna just toss it all in trash though, got no use for it all
it fits v6 engines and 4 cyl engines, not 4.3L and v-8;'s
good luck

so ?
just like thousands of more of them had in 82
nothing special nothing uncommon in most places,
well cept here, i only remembver one and we converted it from 2.5 to sbc400 and used a 72 older truck cast iron bellhousing and iron fork and such
had to beat up floor board for pedal linkage clearance at the fork
was a gray and black 82 firebird, it was not my car and not y idea but i assisted with parts like the bellhousing and such in which i had laying around from one of the trucks i was parting at the time
4 speed 82 83 common, well not here, but in alot of places where older stuff still exists anyways
good luck

You don't have to be a dick about it. I just said that, because most 4sp's in 82 were Saginaw. Sorry I wasn't very clear.
