Rear License Plate Handle
I saw a thirdgen with a small plastic tab to grab to pull the rear license plate down.
Is this a factory item?
If so, anyone have one for sale or know where I can get one?
Anyone have photo of one?
Thanks.

What's the use? I recall old GM cars hiding the tank filler behind the plate, as humorized in National Lampoon's Vacation and found on the 1980 Cadillacs

Kinda the stupid question, but I've owned a convertible Bird so I was assuming the filler on the rear quarter for both cars...also I don't have a hatch

There was a (CHEAP) plastic tab to pull the plate down to access the hatch lock. But like I said, GM's CHEAP plastic was not very durable and mine broke off the first year I owned my car. So you can say it was standard untill they broke off.

Maybe it just came on cars without power hatch release...with the thinking that you would be going there more often
just a thought...

When the pull tab breaks off it leaves no indication that one was even there. Just another of GM's cheap plastic parts.

Looks the same as the old flip down plate gas doors. I'm aware of those to be sure. ine had worked fine but they were on the small size, that's the biggest complaint

Okay for the guys who have a tab:

Do you have a pull tab *and* the stay-down license plate bracket?

Or do you have a pull tab and the always-sprung closed plate bracket?
I noticed the absence of a tab on the Camaro plate holders I've installed on my g-bodies (for the stay-down function.) So I added the tab to the stay-down bracket and have the best of both worlds

I have the over-center spring, can't recall which side it's on.... it pulls itself closed, but once it's open past about halfway, it pulls itself open and holds itself there.
