Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
I know Hawks, Classic Industries and others sell replacement seat covers for the 1982 firebird open headrest seats but I want to know who the manufacture is. I called Classic Industries but they where no help.
They are made by PUI interiors. As far as I could find out they do not sell to individuals and you must buy their products from authorized sellers (Classic, Hawks, Year One, etc ... )

Kind of in a bind here, sort of on a related note. I had ONE passenger side PMD (my ex-inlaw threw the driver side in the trash the little @#%^). Anyway for the longest time had just the one in the original tan colored fabric. This weekend I found an actualy set, and they are blue... since I want mine tan, I will obviously need to recover them but I also want to recover the one I had so I have a "Spare". Unfortunatly I cant find anyone who sells the covers individually.. they are either all (front and back seats) or nothing.

You will probably have to recover both seats anyway. Unless things have changed recently, the Parella cloth used by Pontiac on the Viscount "PMD" seats is no longer made and the cloth used on repop covers is just something that looks similar.

I purchased my covers from Hawks and couldn't have been happier. They MAY just sell you one cover. I know they sold me only the fronts as I was going to leave the rears out of the car. Give them a call, you won't be dissapointed.
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
I ended up buying a set through Hawks, however, I sent some OEM Paralla cloth and welt and carpet to there supplier (ACME Auto in California). They made the seat covers using my original fabric and they fit great and look original. There were a few minor things I had to tweak but overall I was happy with the cover I got. FYI, It took 8 yards of fabric to make the full set, Front and back.

I know an upholstery shop that can duplicate them perfectly. He is pretty expensive though had mine matched from cloth to leather but he matched all the seams extremly nice.
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
I just called that PUI company to find out about samples for the PMD Seats and the person I spoke to couldn't find them in their catalog...???
I'm assuming this is the same company that makes the headliner kit... I can get the headliner in 1789 Medium Beechwood, but that exact color is not listed for their seats, maybe a compatible one exists???
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
The ones I bought from Hawks came from Acme Auto in California. They did a great job, you can use there fabric but I sent in my own fabric and they made the seat covers from that.
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
I don’t think they sell to the public, you may have to go through a reseller, I went through Hawks, I had to send them 10 yard of fabric, that is enough to do the front and back seats. the process went like this.
I called Hawks
Hawks setup the deal with acme auto
I paid Hawks
They sent me the address of where to send my material
I sent my 10 yard of fabric to acme auto
I waited a few weeks
The finished seat covers where sent directly to me.
When I sent in my material I also included a note detailing what I wanted so there would be no mistake. Everything worked out well in my case.
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
Cool... same price for the kit with sending your own fabric?
I'll keep that in mind...
I'm trying to match their 1789 beecwood headliner material to some PMD seats... They have a camel headliner material (also bucksnin) which seems to have a light greenish tint, but there is another encore fabric different number camel the seat can be made of, which looks pretty good (all via monitor of course), so when I order the headliner through a reseller, I'll ask for a sample of the camel encore fabric... If I don't like it, I'll find some other fabric and keep the idea of sending it to them. Thanks for your help!
Re: Who makes the PMD seat upholstery kit for the 1982 firebird?
It was a little more, around $75 but I don't remember exacly, They are saving the cost of there fabric, but do have the added overhead of tracking my special request. In the end I was happy and that's what matters, to me
