Car: 86 sports coupe-83 berlinetta
Engine: 5.0 in the sports coupe-350 in the berlinetta
Transmission: 700r4 in the sports coupe-turbo-350 with a 2500 stal in the berlinetta
Was the gear ratios set in stone?

I know from what Ive seen that 5.7 cars got 323-327 fpr performance gear, 273-277 for standard gearing.
Ive seen where L69 cars got 373 with the 5 speed and 342 with an automatic. I have a friend that has an 84 l69 car auto with 373s.
I guess what Im saying was it possible to if you were in good with a chevy dealer you could order a 5.7 car with 342?
I know it is all about the gas milage.
Im not talking a copo car or anything, I know the 5.7 could never be ordered with a t/5 because of reliability issues. But a stiffer gearing would ad or subtract from reliability.
Thanks Randy

NO, you could not order a option that was not specific to the car model. You were lucky to have a option of two gear ratios on a 350 car and most dealer ordered cars had the standard 2:77 ratio.

The 3:73 ratio was the optional gearing for the L69 with a manual
and 3:42 standard with a manual tranny. No Auto was offered in 1986 with the L69 HO engine optopn. Checkl tje Tech info on this site for additional info.

My friends car is an 84 L69 car. It has the 700r4 and has a 373 open diff. It has the parts tag in the glove box GT4 option.
is it uncommon to have 373 with an auto?

Actually, you are incorrect. The 3.73 rear was standard in the T5 cars. While the auto's had 3.42 as a standard ratio, 3.73's being optional. 3 of my 84 TA's were L69/auto cars, with the optional GT4 3.73 gearset.

I see, either way 373s are a good gear. Im pretty happy with my 345.
