Z28 w/o ground effects?

Okay, here's my dilema. I have a frenkenstein camaro. that is, it's an 86, but doesn't have the CHMSL brakelight (hatch was replaced) and it was sold as a berlinetta, but the vin decodes to a z28 and it has none of the amenities mentioned of the berlinetta so i've been going along with the notion it is a z28. recently i've begun to notice that every z28 I see has the ground effects. Was it an option to leave them off? I recently stripped the whole thing down and there aren't any holes patched so i know they weren't removed. I'll check my RPO sheet when it gets back from the paint shop, but in the mean time i thought i'd ask if anyone has heard of this?

All Z28's and IROC-Z's originally came with ground effects. What is your VIN?

Also, do you have a Z28 hood? Can you verify its originality by the VIN label on the underside?

I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow and i'll get the vin and the RPO's off of it. Oh and the stickers came off when I stripped it so I don't know about that, but I know that the vin on the rpo sheet matches the one in the window.

vin decodes to a z28
The VIN doesn't indicate any difference between the Z28 and the Sport Coupe, only between the SC/Z28 and the Berlinetta.

Very true, BUT if the car in question has an engine that's unique to that model (i.e. V6 in a SC or TPI in a Z28), the VIN would show this. Otherwise if the car has an engine that was offered in both (i.e. LG4 or L03), the VIN would not tell us.

Richie,

This one's an easy one. You don't have RPO Z28. You own a 1986 Sport Coupe. Sorry.
