Third Gen Super Sport? What Would It Be Like?

Third Gen Super Sport? What Would It Be Like?
Ok, ive always wondered this. Third gen's are the only gen's without a Super Sport model, so if they would make one, what would it comprise of? And would it be approprite to badge a 3rd gen with SS emblems if one feels that his or her build would qualify for a SS? Just want to pick your guys brains, let me know what you think!

Probably what the IROC turned out to be... think about it, there was a base model, an RS, a Z28, and an IROC... for the other 3 generations, its base/RS/Z28/SS.

I like the idea of a super sport, but IROC just sounds more agressive I guess? plus it's somthing only us third gens can have

In my opinion no it's not appropriate. I don't believe in rebadging a car as something else unless your are building an exact clone, and only if you are honest and tell people it's a clone.

They did, 1991-1992 Chevrolet Camaro B4C Special Service! I know I know, its not the same but if you really want to get technical they did make an SS, it just wasn't badged (which is what I assume you mean).

Didn't the "LT" badge replace the SS badge on the second gens? And didn't the "Berlinetta" Badge replace the LT badge later on?? Assuming this is correct then the Berlinetta medel is the closest relative to the third gen SS lineage. However, I like the IROC reference better.
And those rare turbo daytonas were unreliable. I had a friend with one. (At least that one was) It spent more time in the shop than on the road.

Hey... I had the turbo Daytona motor in my 89 Dodge Caravan (yes, stock). If unreliable is being able to run 12psi boost on a stock motor... then I guess I agree with you

The Iroc concept in the Gran Tourismo game doesn't look anywhere close to a 4th Gen. However there are a lot of 4th Gen's in the game. The concept one is the Camaro that Chevy put a lot and I mean a lot of parts inside the interior, heavily influenced by the Ferrari, it also sported the TransAm tail light section and some other things, some of them real neatly done, some of them naaah.
Actually I saw a Corvette the other day, 70's, with TransAm tail lights. Looked real good.

I've never played GT4, but I have seen pix of the yellow Iroc concept car... GTZ or something like that. Wide body, weird hood etc... reminds me of a round 4th gen.

I wonder everyday what it would take to swap out my RS badging for SS badging. I know it would take away from its thirdgen-ness, but I think it would be fun to be creative .
I'm feeling a 396 sbc. Horsepower comparable to modern high-perf sports cars (400-500), while maintaining street manners (stroked ls1 maybe, or even ls7? ). Put that to a t56 with a strong rear end with, eh 3.42s or 3.73s (i'm still thinking street manners).
For exhuast, long tubes to y to 3 or 4 inch catback. Catback won't be too important, because there will be electric cutouts before the y on each longtube. The cutouts will open at a certain throttle position, or throttle position rate of change (the faster you press the throttle, the more likely the cutouts will open). This is again to maintain street manners, while optimizing performance.
Suspension would use same modified mcpherson strut, but with performance oriented parts. 1 inch lowering springs, bilstein struts/shocks, probably still rubber bushings in most places to keep some comfort. Three link rear suspension will remain.
Rims will be 17s with big brakes. I'm thinking vette 4 piston calipers and appropriate rotors.
Interior, stock. EXCEPT for swapping out the swap tach for an accurate and reliable tach.
At least, that is what my mind dreams. Someday, hopefully .

I dig the side pipes and the rear wing. The huge SS decal on the sail panel is ugly. Without specs its hard to call that an SS.

I suppose if you meet the HP of a 69 350 SS with the matched rear and drivetrain than I would say yes feel free to badge it and call it a clone. Thats the only way I could see justfying it. I always wanted to badge my s/c the SSC (Super Sports Coupe) but I decided against it.
