IROC-Z, Is this a good deal? 54k mi
Hey guys I don't mess much with Camaro's, but I just found this 89 Iroc-Z close to me. It is a 305TPI, 5spd, T-tops, ice cold air, with 54k original miles. He also still has the stock stereo. Garage kept and brand new tires. I have talked him down to $5800. Is this too much? If I buy the car, I don't plan to keep it for a long time, so I would want to be able to get my money back out of it.

Absolutely not a good deal. With that said, can I have the guy's number?
Seriously, I'd jump on that fast. Its a great deal.

Assuming the condition is great (not all low mileage cars are), you'll have no trouble at all getting your money back out of that one. I'm pretty sure I'd pay more than that for it if everything was as expected!

I don't know, if you look at the close up pics of the bumper, you can see stripe tape tearing, part of emblem missing, etc. I wouldn't call that car "great" condition, but it looks very good. I wouldn't call $5800 a smokin deal for a good condition 3rd gen, but its probably a reasonable price for that car.
Why would you buy it if you don't plan on keeping it? Third gens are generally going up in price, but they are still far from super desirable as far as cars go. You won't lose your shirt on the car but you probably won't make any money on it either.

And you get a CB radio and the old Cell One telephone plus crank windows, Can't beat that for $5,800. Still is a nice looking car but don't buy it as an investment. Buy it because you want an IROC and '89 was the best year to get an IROC.

She is a nice looking IROC and I have always like that shade of blue. She has the LB9/5 speed but are those the 15" or 16" wheels?I agree buy her because you like her not because you're looking for a turn around profit as you probably won't(but that is just my .02).

Not neccessarily looking for a turn around profit, but I am in the market for another F-body. I didn't know if it was a super deal or not, I figured if it was a good deal, that I should not pass it up. It would be a fun car to own for a while, but not exactly what I want.
Right now I'm looking at a '96 WS6, black on black leather, loaded, MINT, 78k mi....for $9000. So it's kind of a toss up right now.

Just from the info so far, I'd say it's not a great deal, but a good deal. If I had the money and was in the market for one, I'd pick her up.
Unabused examples are getting harder and harder to find. I also always liked that blue colour too. The LB9 & 5spd is a nice combo to have.
PS; I haven't seen a cellphone like that since the early '90's!!!!!

briefly looking at the car it appears to be in pretty good shape overall so I would say it is a fair price, but a long way from a steal. This would be a car to buy because you want it, as said before.
Now that I will have to disagree with, '90 was the best year IROC IMO because of the new interior, airbag, limited production, ect.

Everyone's favourite year IrocZ is an open ended debate. I like the '89 because . . .
- I prefer the white lettered controls vs yellow.
- It's the last year of the "old school" interior prior to the introduction of the airbag (yes, I'm an old fart ). I'm a sucker for that tacky '80's thinking.
- You also didn't need to get the G92 RPO in order to get the hotter LB9 cam with the 5-spd (which coincidently is the drivetrain mentioned in the original post). Sweet!
But I do agree, the low production #'s of the '90 Iroc is definitly hard to beat.

Well guys I think I am going to pass this one up, since it is not really what I'm looking for. Thanks for your help and opinions. I might just pick up this WS6 on Friday. Here is the link to the IROC-Z if any are interested.

Re: IROC-Z, Is this a good deal? 54k mi
looks pretty good. the "tuned port injection" decal is broken, they arent that expensive however. looks like a nice car with low miles and a 5 speed. make sure you check all of the suspect rust areas. inside rear wheel wells near spare tire. look at it from inside. overall that car is fairly nice.
