finding out rpo options

Have an 82 TA and need help finding out what rpo codes it was built with.
no rpo list on the car since it is an 82, from my understanding they didn't start apearing on cars till 84. I work at a gm dealership and have exhausted all my resources with TAC and our parts dept. The people at Tac said that GM didn't even keep that good of track till 84 when they started installing rpo labels on the vehicle. Any help appretiated.

Re: finding out rpo options

There should be a cowl tag on the radiator support with some codes and info. Try looking there. It will tell you some stuff.

Re: finding out rpo options

You need to get a copy of the dealer invoice through Pontiac Historical Services, www.phs-online.com It will list all cost options on the car.

Pontiac kept excellent records although a fire destroyed much of the files for 1950's and older Pontiacs.

The GM Dealerworld system can bring up key codes and the RPO list on 1990 and newer GM vehicles.

If your lucky, you might find a build sheet hidden somewhere in the car, if it hasnt been destroyed or already removed.

That is not what PHS does. They have all of Pontiac's dealer invoices/billing historys on vehicles produced prior to 1987. You supply them with your VIN number and they will look in the archives and make a copy if its available and mail it to you for a fee.

The "Build sheets" were used only at the factory and were either thrown in the car while it was built or trashed. The Van Nuys plant was real good about leaving a few hidden in the car but the Norwood plant usually trashed them. Common places for build sheets are under the carpet or seats, behind door panels, and on top of the gas tank.

Re: finding out rpo options

PHS is the go-to place for info on your early third Gen...

You will get a copy of the dealers invoice, and they can make you a window sticker from that if you like.
