Now if only I could "decode" how to use the "decoder". It just keeps saying a 'network error' has occured. Does anyone know where a person can find a decoder that doesn't also require a degree in computer science to use it?
Perhaps something with a list of codes and what they mean right beside it without having to reprogram you computer's structure, etc.....
".NET framework " can anyone that knows what that means explain it to me. I will admit that I am not a computer programmer, I just want a simple way to look up what some of the codes mean on a SPID sticker.
Here's one. I know it's on an S10 forum, but it goes off the GM master list I would think. Here's another (scroll down toward the middle of the page).
A google search for "GM rpo codes" or "gm rpo decoder" should give you a nice variety...
As for .Net, here's a link to the Wikipedia article for Microsoft's .Net Framework. If you feel inclined to learn more about it. But, here's the short version (webopedia.com's definition): "A programming infrastructure created by Microsoft for building, deploying, and running applications and services that use .NET technologies, such as desktop applications and Web services."
Unfortunately, I don't know what could be causing your problem... What OS are you running?
-1989 Camaro with a 305 TPI, soon to be 6.0L LSx. -1985 Camaro with a 350 TPI, probably gonna stay that way. At least until I'm done with the other one...

I will once again admit that I am not very bright when it comes to doing more on a computer then clicking on well explained links.
Thanks for the above links, I will give those a try
Hmm, well, you shouldn't be having any problems... I'm running XP Home as well. All I can suggest (I'm not a programmer either), would be if your XP is fully up to date... If you have run Windows update within the last few months you should be fine. Barring that, I have no idea... Sorry I can't be of more assistance. Hopefully, the links will work well enough for you. Good luck.

As the page says, you must have .net framework installed on your computer. If you don't, it won't work. The decoder was programmed by one of our founder's buddies (if I recall) quite some time (years) ago.
Go to Start-Control Panel-Add or Remove Programs and look for "Microsoft .Net Framework" listed. If it's not, it's not installed. I'm pretty sure this program is not installed by default. You would need to download and install it from Microsoft's website.
Thanks guys. The one from the S-10 forum was perfect. It allowed me to enter all of the codes at once and then click enter (or something that easy) and it listed them all. I'm gonna keep that site for future use.
The problem with some of those is that the RPOs are not 100% the same. They did get changed through the years. I can't say "ours" is any better on this, as it was developed several years ago and I'm not sure of the source as I wasn't involved.
For example, looking up "AA8", which is the RPO code for the Notchback option on the 1988 GTA, on the S10 website states:
Quote:
AA8 "HOLDENS FINANCE OPTION, GENERAL HOLDENS BY DESIGN (HBD) FITTED ITEMS-(VALID THROUGH 2000)"
and "1LE"
Quote:
1LE LOCAL , RESERVED FOR 2004 GMX-281 GTO
That's not correct for our Third Gen F-Body. I can only imagine there is going to be more like that.
However, it's probably good to have different sources to check questionable codes.
Thanks JT. I found one that said "push button lock out"(S-10) or something like that instaed of A/C(TGO).
I did get the TGO one to work after I finally found it on my desktop hidden in the 1 million other icons I have on there. I like how the TGO one also gives you an instant decode and adds it to a list below while you can continue to enter more codes.
Thanks again guys for the help
