Re: 1982 camaro 8 track
Only 3,531 AM/FM stereo 8-track units (RPO YE3) were installed in Camaros in 1982. This was only about 2% of Camaros built that year.
I've never seen one either.
It was an expensive option, at $446, so I have to think it was electronically tuned and similar to the top-level cassette stereo which was $441. Maybe someone with a 1982 brochure can shed some light on this.

Re: 1982 camaro 8 track
It's possible but I doubt it. The 1982 Vette was still using the small-style Delco radios used in the Second Gen F-bodies. The 1982 F-bodies were designed to use the larger, new-generation Delco systems. The Vette adopted this style in 1984.

here's the pic of it. i tried to make it as large as possible without making it too big for the page. i do have a much larger, clearer pic of it if needed.

That is one funky radio. Large size, digital clock, but with a manual tuning band...it's almost like a hybrid between old and new. Interesting.

Re: 1982 camaro 8 track
Now I feel old!! I had NO IDEA 8 tracks were still hip in the early '80s!
I remember when casettes were "all the rave" LOL!
It would be nostalgic to see if someone can post-up a photo of one in a 3rd gen! [ I think the OP would too..?..]
Now that CDs are on the way out, you young ones will reflect on the days the CD players were "all that"!!

Re: 1982 camaro 8 track
Ive seen some of the 8 track players on 82 cars that have been for sell before on ebaymotors. Usually everytime i see one though, they were very standard camaros, some ive seen without ac options, manuel roll up windows, manuel locks. But ive actually seen a couple dozen of them on ebay before.

Re: 1982 camaro 8 track
IMO 8 tracks have always been the black sheep of the audio world. I never liked them because they were more bulky but after using them for a short while I started to like them more. I think it would be fun to have one in a car because they are so unique, but the sound quality wouldn't be that great. Nice find on the images and information.
