Correct Gas Cap for 1988 5.7 IROC....Vented or Non-Vented?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to determine what kind of gas cap my 1988 IROC is supposed to have. When I bought the car, it had a vented unit. When I looked up and purchased a Stant replacement, it was non-vented. If I use the vented cap, I smell gas fumes at the rear of the car. The non vented cap gives me fumes at the engine copmartment. Just trying to detemine the right cap so I can troubleshoot the fumes problem.

Thanks for the help!

You will have a non-vented cap to contain evap emissions. You probably have a leaking hose on the system under the hood. Check near the evap canister.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! I did a 'sniff' test near the canister but was unable to come up with anything. I'll keep looking and hopefully I can find it.
